We are the Johns Hopkins chapter of the American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative, a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing community awareness of lung cancer and the importance of early detection through lung cancer screening for high-risk individuals.
ALCSI was founded by Boston Mass General Surgeon and Harvard Medical School Professor Dr. Jeff Yang in 2020.
There are 53 U.S. College Chapters, 3 Canadian University Chapters, and growing!
ALCSI has led over 700 lung cancer screening events, including tabling at health fairs and on university campuses; canvassing at parks, bus stops, and subway stations, and organizing white ribbon builds. Rain or shine, members go out into the community to teach people about lung cancer screening.
ALCSI has helped pass Senate resolutions by unanimous consent declaring November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month and expressing support for the early detection of lung cancer for the past three years. 2020 marked the first time the US senate unanimously expressed support for lung cancer awareness.
