About Us
Founding Principles: 1. People with disabilities are an important part of a diverse workforce but remain underrepresented in medicine and the biomedical sciences. 2. Individuals with disabilities in science and medicine face social and institutional barriers influenced by the structure, culture, and climate of training programs. These barriers can arise from stereotypes, generalizations, or outdated information. 3. In competitive training environments, some trainees with disabilities may hesitate to disclose their disability because of concerns about judgment, bias, licensing, clinical privileges, or how their abilities may be perceived. The Equal Access in Science and Medicine (EASM) Committee works to support accessibility and full participation for all trainees. We aim to build community, offer educational seminars, and advocate for resources that support accessible clinical, research, and learning environments. We welcome all JHSOM students, including students with disabilities, students with chronic illnesses or mental health conditions, allies, and anyone who supports accessibility and inclusion. We welcome individuals of all identities and backgrounds.
