We are writing to provide you with some important reminders regarding the union election for PhD students at Johns Hopkins.
Today, January 30, and tomorrow, January 31, all student workers in the proposed bargaining unit will have the opportunity to vote on whether the union TRU-UE will become their exclusive representative for the purposes of collective bargaining.
Voting Eligibility
You are receiving this email because you are on the list of voters provided to the National Labor Relations Board. TRU-UE seeks to represent approximately 3,200 graduate students enrolled in Johns Hopkins University PhD programs who receive compensation for instructional and research services, including teaching assistants, research assistants and fellows.
Voting Locations & Logistics
Each PhD student is assigned a specific location for voting, based on the school in which you are enrolled. Please review the information below, which includes the specific dates, times, and locations for the election.
The election has been scheduled to take place on January 30th and 31st on the Homewood and East Baltimore campuses, and on January 31st on the SAIS-DC campus. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the union, and JHU have agreed on the following dates, times, and assigned voting locations based on the student’s degree granting school.
For voters who use a chosen name that is different from their legal name: Please note that the university was required to provide the NLRB with a list of PhD students’ legal names. Upon arrival at your voting location, you will be asked to provide your legal name in order to be verified as an eligible voter.
