Mission
Active Minds at Hopkins is dedicated to stopping suicide before it happens at The Johns Hopkins University through education, outreach, and the creation of a campus environment that supports those with mental, behavioral, and substance use concerns and encourages them to seek help. Chapter activities focus on prevention and early intervention while also acknowledging that work must be done during and after a mental, behavioral, or substance use crisis to foster a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Active Minds at Hopkins does not provide direct peer support or other therapeutic services; instead, the chapter focuses on ensuring that students feel empowered in discussing their mental and behavioral health and have the skills necessary to support themselves and others and advocate for institutional- and community-level change.

The African Students Association (ASA) of Johns Hopkins University comprises a group of students of African and non-African descent dedicated to the education of the Hopkins community at large of the different cultures that comprise the African continent. ASA also provides a network of support for African students at Johns Hopkins and serves as a source of information for any member of the Johns Hopkins University community interested in learning about Africa. The African Students Association is a service as well as social organization which aims to rid misconceptions concerning Africa through education.

The Ahlul-Bayt Student Association’s mission is to cater to the spiritual and educational needs of Shia Muslim students at Johns Hopkins, particularly those who have been marginalized in other spaces. Every aspect of ABSA at JHU will align with the teachings of the Qur’an and sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (s) and his Ahlul-Bayt (a). The American Mock World Health Organization chapter at Johns Hopkins University leads annual simulation conferences where delegates are invited to assume the roles of global leaders in addressing todayÔÇÖs most pertinent global health issues. We provide opportunities for students to develop leadership abilities, sharpen public speaking skills, understand real-world policy applications through the lens of their respective roles. The chapter also recruits for and attends the National AMWHO conference as a delegation.

AMWHO is modeled after the Ontario and Montreal World Health Organization conferences set in Canada, and the primary focus of all three is to raise student awareness of pertinent health issues facing the world today, as well as to promote understanding of the many roles students can engage in through global health policy. The conference hopes to establish an environment similar to that of the World Health OrganizationÔÇÖs Assembly, and educate future global health leaders in the proceedings of international health entities. Furthermore, AMWHO aims to nurture an interest in global health and health policy that is often neglected in a standard health education curriculum. Students will receive the opportunity to sharpen their diplomacy skills, as well as increase their ability to engage in problem solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills.

The Catholic Community at Hopkins is a vibrant community of faith that hosts several weekly and monthly events. Weekend and daily Masses are held at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church and University Parish at 2801 N. Charles St., across the street from the south side of campus. Our main gathering space is the student Newman Center adjacent to the church, a welcoming space for students filled with comfortable couches, a flat-screen TV, a pool table, and a fully stocked kitchen, courtesy of our chaplains. The Newman Center is always open to students for studying or relaxing.

This year we are planning on expanding our offerings in accessing the sacraments, fellowship, and spiritual formation, including:
- Family Dinners after the 5pm Sunday Mass
- Newman Night social nights and discussions after Eucharistic Adoration at 7pm on Wednesday nights at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church
- Peer-led small group Bible studies
- Monthly community service opportunities
- Multiple retreats
- Special events such as: Trivia Nights, Advent Party, and more!

The Catholic Community welcomes all, both undergraduate and graduate students, and hopes that you will find a new faith-filled home at Johns Hopkins. As Pope Francis recently stated at World Youth Day in Lisbon, "there is space for everyone." Absolutely all are welcome and we look forward to seeing you!

The purpose of Chess Club is to promote the game of chess on the
Johns Hopkins University campus by providing a fun, friendly environment for students, faculty,
and staff to learn and play chess. As one of the oldest games, chess has cultivated a large
following which has grown in recent years. While people can play online, an in-person
environment allows for people to socialize, cultivate a healthy chess culture, and improve at the
game with the support of peers.

The mission of Club Colombia, the Colombian Student Association at The Johns Hopkins University, is to foster a safe environment for all Hopkins undergraduate students to celebrate Colombian culture and identities. In addition, the organization aims to expose the Hopkins community to various important aspects of Colombian society, including current events, politics, economics, social initiatives, and environmental issues, among many others. Finally, the organization will work toward connecting members with the Latinx and/or South American community in Baltimore through volunteering opportunities or other events.
