This event aims to inform and open a space for strategic dialogue on the fundamental role being played by emerging OAS initiatives concerning the rights of Afro-descendant peoples and their articulation with normative and policy developments within the universal human rights system. The meeting seeks to strengthen the understanding, among civil society organizations, State representatives, and other relevant stakeholders, of the importance of promoting an integrated and coherent reading of both systems, highlighting the opportunities offered by the Inter-American framework to complement and reinforce universal standards. In this way, the event aspires to contribute to greater ownership of these instruments, to the strengthening of advocacy strategies, and ultimately to the consolidation of a more robust and effective normative framework for the protection and guarantee of the rights of Afro-descendant persons, communities, and peoples in the Americas and globally.
