Homewood-Peabody-JHMI Shuttle schedule modified to eliminate service interruptions

The Homewood-Peabody-JHMI Shuttle will run on a modified schedule over the next few weeks as the university prepares to introduce a new fleet of buses to the service line next month.

Johns Hopkins Transportation Services is aware of service interruptions on the Homewood-Peabody-JHMI route in recent days caused both by mechanical issues due to the age of the current bus fleet and staffing issues with the current service provider. As a result, the university is bringing in additional buses on a temporary basis to insure reliable, uninterrupted service.

Beginning on Thursday, Sept. 16, and continuing for a period of two and a half weeks, service time for the shuttle will be reduced to every 10 minutes during peak weekday morning and afternoon times and every 15 to 30 minutes during other parts of the day. A complete schedule is available on the Transportation Services website. Full service will be restored on Saturday, Oct. 2.

During this period of transition period, the Transloc app and website—which riders can use to track shuttles—will not be available for the Homewood-Peabdody-JHMI route. Transloc will remain in Blue Jay Shuttles and other daytime shuttle services operated by JHU, and it will return with the new Homewood-Peabody-JHMI bus fleet in October. Night ride, an on-demand, curb-to-curb service, will continue to operate normally during this time.

"We regret this interim service disruption, but we are incredibly excited to provide a new fleet of buses with a new service provider," said Greg Smith, director of transportation services.

The new buses are currently being inspected and equipped with Transloc, cameras, passenger counters, and decals in preparation for their debut next month. A full complement of dispatchers and drivers are being hired and trained, and a new schedule will be published by Friday, Oct. 1.

"We look forward to sharing more information in the coming weeks," Smith said.
