For this inaugural installment of our newsletter, we'd like to highlight some important things for you to keep in mind as we begin this Fulbright cycle. Throughout the summer, we'll be bringing you news about upcoming deadlines, writing workshops, important application information, and tips to help you craft competitive essays! Starting next week, we'll be holding Fulbright Community Hours virtually on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 pm ET. Typically, one session each week will consist of open advising hours, while the other will focus on a topic that's essential to the Fulbright process. Please take advantage of these opportunities to ask us any questions and to improve the quality of your application. We hope that you find the Fulbright application process to be a rewarding experience!

Please note: we'll be using HopkinsGroups to send these emails for now as we work on getting Constant Contact set up. If you have decided not to continue with a Fulbright application this cycle, please use the link at the bottom to unsubscribe.

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHT
First Things First: Choosing a Country
Not sure where you'd like to go? No problem! Fulbright has added a new award search tool to its website and this can be a great starting point for generating a list of countries that fit your specifications and for which you are a basic match. You can also simply explore regions, countries and specific awards via the Countries section of the Fulbright site. However you proceed, reading the specific award profiles for countries of interest is critical to narrowing down viable country options. If you'd like more help, be sure to join us for our Country Selection Workshop on June 2! (see section above for details)
WRITING TIPS
Getting Started? Check out some writing samples from previous JHU Fulbright winners!
We know that getting started can be one of the most difficult parts of the writing process. That's why we have samples of essays from previous Fulbright recipients on our Blackboard site. Be sure to check them out! We hope that you find them to be helpful models as you brainstorm, outline, and start your drafts. (Remember: these are finished products that emerged after several rounds of revision - essays don't start out as polished as these!)
The Fulbright ETA Program in Armenia seeks to strengthen educational and cultural relationships between the United States and Armenia, and U.S. Fulbright grantees to Armenia will find a dynamic and rewarding environment in which to teach.
The National Fellowships Program (NFP) in Scholars & Fellows Programs (SFP) advises JHU students and recent graduates applying for external fellowships (i.e. awarded via national, merit-based competitions across multiple universities and funded typically by foundations or government agencies). You can find information about many awards, with detailed profiles for several, on our website. If you are interested in a particular fellowship, or multiple fellowships, we want to hear from you! Please make an advising appointment, or email us to start a conversation.
