About Us
Poetry As Medicine (PAM) aims to explore the art of poetry through the lens of healing. We will read and discuss poems from various time periods with a focus on topics of healing – be it psychological, emotional, environmental, sociological, cultural, or else. Moreover, we will hold forums for members to explore poems and other relevant literature to explore how these narratives reflect perspectives on health and provided care. Although this organization is centered around poetry, we will also explore the benefits of empowering patients’ narrative expression through many creative mediums, such as art and storytelling. Last, members can sign up to volunteer at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute to help hold our elective creative expression workshops for patients, as well as generally aid in a variety of rehabilitative services. The club is intended to be open and accessible to all students interested in poetry, narrative storytelling, and/or medicine regardless of major, academic interests, or previous creative expression experience.
