Thanks for all of the enthusiasm and engagement you guys have shown our event guests thus far. This email outlines the rest of the D&I events planned for the Fall semester.
Additionally (because I can't help myself), I encourage all D&I members looking for nerdy Spring Break plans to apply to the International Staff Ride: The Liberation of Italy! Applications are due tomorrow (Saturday, November 1st) at 11:59PM ET. Details are in the application.
Thurs. 11/06: Military Service to Support a Policy Career
This event is designed to help SAIS students understand how military service can be a professionally rewarding adjunct to their civilian national security careers. From immediate considerations (like a security clearance and valuable technical training) to more strategic uses (like working on the Joint Staff to write better policy), uniformed service is a powerful tool for policy-minded folks. Come explore the space with SAIS Professors Dr. Tom Mahnken (Navy Reserves, ret.) and Dr. Travis Sharp (Navy Reserves) along with currently serving SAIS students. Lunch provided.
Thurs. 11/13: Global Disruptive Forces with Tom Sanderson
This will be the LAST D&I event of the semester! Mr. Sanderson's talk sold-out last year, so don't miss the chance to register now.
Tom Sanderson is the Principal at Tom Sanderson Consulting and Founder and former Director of the CSIS Transnational Threats Project. Mr. Sanderson has conducted field work in over 80 countries engaging warfighters, refugees, traffickers, government officials, and violent extremists. His recent field work includes Ukraine, Somalia, and Taiwan, to name a few. Mr. Sanderson will be joining us once again to give an updated version of his “Global Disruptive Forces” presentation, which has been delivered to US Joint Special Operations Command, the National Intelligence Service, the NSA, Boeing, Airbus, and Google, among others. Mr. Sanderson will also discuss career opportunities and engagement in the geopolitical risk field and answer any questions participants have.
With the SAIS Tech Club:
Join the SAIS Tech Club and Defense & Intelligence Club for an evening of good conversation, networking, and community! Whether you're interested in technology, innovation, national security, or just want to meet fellow SAISers, this is a great opportunity to connect with students and alumni across disciplines.
Come unwind after classes, exchange ideas, and expand your network in a relaxed setting. Students and alumni are welcome — we look forward to seeing you there! Details in flyer.
With SAIS MASOS Club:
We are working on another Happy Hour with MASOS (and potentially Georgetown MBA/SSP) for November 21st. Stay tuned for details!
