The Student Government Association (SGA) had the first general body meeting (GBM) of its 2023-2024 session on April 18th, 2023, where the newly inaugurated Student Body President Ryan Chou, with the consultation of the President’s Cabinet, made the following appointments:
- Milton Diaz ‘25 as Director of Communications
- Vanessa Han ‘26 as Director of Research
- Sean Li ‘26 as Chief of Staff
- Elaina Regier ‘24 as Director of Transitions
- Ireland Parrish ‘24 and Kobi Khong ‘24 as Co-Directors of Advocacy
- Kaitlyn Jung ‘25 and Christopher Xiao ‘24 as Co-Directors of Publications
All candidates were approved unanimously by the Senate. The full cabinet is listed at the end of this press release.
Cabinet appointees will carry out the following functions:
- The Director of Communications will manage SGA’s social media platforms and all other communication spaces.
- The Director of Research will analyze policy and data from SGA surveys and advise the President and Senate on future actions.
- The Chief of Staff will assist the President with administrative tasks.
- The Director of Transitions will manage the major transitions taking place between administrations.
- The Directors of Advocacy will support advocacy projects and communicate with high-level administration. They will also correspond with other representative bodies
- The Directors of Publications will summarize SGA’s activity to the student body.
Previously, the SGA Senate was elected solely by graduating class. However, for the upcoming school year, the Senate will better reflect the diverse campus community by also representing many minority and affinity groups, academic schools, and student organizations. In the executive branch, each class will have its own programming council to manage all events hosted by SGA, including the yearly class traditions (formals). In this way, event planning will now be separate from advocacy activities so that representatives can better focus on their specialties.
In the upcoming April 25th GBM, the SGA Senate will assign representatives to their respective committees and vote on candidates to fill four senatorial vacancies for the Black Caucus Chair, Hispanic/Latinx Caucus Chair, Media RSO, and Honor and Professional Society RSO. After the chair appointments, caucus representative groups will be filled by their respective groups on campus (BSU, ASA, OLE, or other interested students).
