The Student Government Association (SGA) held its fifth general body meeting (GBM) of the 111th session on September 12th, 2023.
Cabinet Reports
Student Body President Ryan Chou is working with LEED to set up the three annual meetings SGA has with President Daniels, preparing an email to the chief information officer (CIO) regarding the cybersecurity incident from earlier this year, and contacting the listed recipients of the recently-passed Board of Trustees resolution. Student Body Treasurer Jenny Chen reported that semesterly budgets have been distributed and the finance committee has resolved issues regarding organizations being unable to view their group funds. Chair of Programming Shalala Leny promoted the Barbie at the Beach event, which will take place on September 23rd, from 4-9PM. You can sign up for the event through Campus Groups here.
SGA held a closed session regarding the RSO 101 & Finance 101 training sessions that took place the day before Labor Day.
President Resham Talwar proposed a funding bill for Joy on Wheels Cart, which will install a cart near Malone Hall equipped with games, recreational items, and arts and crafts items. The bill was ultimately referred to Finance. After much discussion over the Phi Delta Theta Crab Fest funding bill, Senator Sabour Shaik and Maahi Ameer were able to secure pilot funds, which can be extended if need be in case the turnout is greater than expected. At the end of the GBM, SGA passed the Academic Senators Bylaw Update Bill presented by Senator Timothy Huang and President Resham Talwar unanimously.

The Women and Gender Minorities Caucus met with Student Body Vice President, Jackson Morris to discuss upcoming initiatives and advocacy projects. WGMC plans to pursue Chair and soon-to-beelected Vice-Chair positions on various JHU committees and E-Boards related to Women and Gender Minority Protection, including the Diversity Leadership Council, Multicultural Leadership Council, Student Advisory Committee for Public Safety, Sexual Assault Resource Unit, and more. WGMC plans to liaison with DSAGA and OSTEM to source students to build the WGMC caucus roster, and plans to collaborate with these organizations to help push for more gender neutral bathrooms on campus.

Senator Benjamin of the Finance Committee presented at the Multicultural Leadership Coalition meeting outlining the responsibilities of the committee, allocation-evaluations based on SAC guidelines, and different avenues of funding that cultural organizations can pursue. As this is an organization interested in a potential co-sponsorship event, the Finance Committee expects to be working with them in the future.
