KPM was founded in 2015, and we are the first and only, award-winning K-Pop cover dance group on the Johns Hopkins University campus. KPM seeks to promote an awareness of K-Pop and by doing so, foster artistic talent and expression.

KPM members meet on campus multiple times a week to learn and create choreographies to K-Pop and non K-Pop songs. We also film dance covers to post on our YouTube channel, guest perform at various events in the Baltimore area, compete in K-Pop festivals in Maryland, and host end-of-semester showcases to share the art of K-Pop with the Johns Hopkins and neighboring communities.

The official dance team of Johns Hopkins University, The Ladybirds Dance Team is a completely student-run and student-choreographed team. Focusing on a variety of dance styles including pom, lyrical/contemporary, and jazz, members come from diverse dance backgrounds and are encouraged to contribute their styles in choreography throughout the year, culminating in the annual Ladybirds Spring Showcase held in Shriver Hall. The team also performs at many football games in the fall, and basketball and lacrosse games in the spring as well as other performing arts events across campus.

Lan Yun Blue Orchids is a performing arts group for students to come together to learn and practice traditional Chinese dance. Dancers of all levels of experience are welcome!

One character for Lan (Þÿ¡) means orchid, while another Lan (Þùì) is the color blue. The character Yun (Úƒ╗) means rhythm. Using the two meanings of Lan, we have our Nickname, "blue orchids". Much like the orchid, a complex flower that is uniquely shaped, the Lan Yun Chinese Dance team seeks to promote the understanding of a rich and intricate culture through unique dance moves.

Shakti is the only competitive Indian Classical Dance team at Johns Hopkins University. Since 2003, the dancers of JHU Shakti have excelled on stage, telling stories through dance while holding dear the value of our classical Indian dance form and culture. As a competitive team, Shakti won Mayuri in 2013 and received third place at Dhirana in 2016. The team dedicates their time to the mastery of expression, hand movements, and footwork, and seeks to convey a powerful story through classical dance to all audiences. The members of Shakti each bring a variety of classical dance styles to the team and meld them into dynamic performances featuring traditional steps set to fast-tempo beats, complex formations, and moving narratives.

We are the Choral Society at Johns Hopkins University, Homewood's SATB choir, and the parent group of the ECCO Chamber Choir.

The Choral Society is a non-auditioned full chorus whose focus is large-scale choral works, usually from the Baroque or Classical periods. Our repertoire varies in difficulty, but we welcome singers of all ranges and experience levels, including JHU students, faculty and staff, and community members. The Choral Society performs in two concerts a year, and regularly collaborates with the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra.

ECCO, JHU Homewood's auditioned chamber choir, is a subset of the Choral Society open only to JHU students. We perform more difficult and varied repertoire, and participate in more performances per year. In recent years, ECCO has sung with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, has performed for the JHU Board of Directors, at Family Weekend, and has been invited to sing at Alumni Weekend.

Every season is a new opportunity to improve yourself as a singer under the tutelage of our director, Dr. Mark Hardy, who is also the choral program director at the Baltimore School for the Arts. We encourage anyone who is interested in either of our groups to reach out to us. We hope to sing with you soon!

Both the Choral Society and ECCO offer a convenient way to continue (or begin!) your choral career. Both groups generally meet once weekly, for about 1.5 hours, and are based out of the Homewood campus. Several members of the Choral Society and ECCO are also members of a capella groups or instrumental ensembles. We are a friendly group, joined by the appreciation of choral music.

Chinese lion dance provides people with blessing and prosperity while guarding against misfortune and dispelling evil spirits. Often linked to the Chinese New Year, the lion dance may be seen on other occasions such as grand-openings, weddings, birthdays, and festivals. Though based on martial arts, Lion dance has become an art of its own, and many troupes are not associated with kung fu schools.

The JHU Yong Han Lion Dance Troupe was founded in 2003 by a group of students who wanted to learn more about the culture and performance of Lion Dance. Since then, we have been performing all over the east coast, from NYC to Washington D.C. With chances to perform at a wide range of events, from weddings to parades to cultural events, the troupe offers a lot of opportunity to travel and explore the local and regional area. To join the troupe, we require NO experience, only that you come with an interest in learning and desire to work hard. If you have any interest in exploring the Chinese culture behind Lion Dance or just want to get some good exercise in and have fun, then definitely stop by our practices and introduce yourself. We are a close knit troupe and you'll certainly feel welcome here! Newer members will train in kung fu based lion dance techniques, while more experienced members will choreograph new routines and acrobatic tricks.
