COURSE REGISTRATION
Graduate students School of Medicine students will be able to submit course registration requests through SIS Self-Service for the upcoming Spring 2023 semester effective Monday November 14th. Completion of registration each term is a requirement for all graduate students who will be pursuing academic work or research during the academic year.
School of Medicine full time graduate students are expected to register for a total of 18 credits, even if they are solely doing research. This should be done by registering by fixed credit courses (have a specific credit assignment), variable credit courses (listed as 1-18 credits), or a combination of the two. Once a student has scheduled the courses that their program has designated for them for Spring 2023, they must also register for a variable credit research course offered by their program to round out their schedule to meet the 18 credit standard. When registering for the variable credit research course, the student will need to enter a credit number value in the registration screen. The value entered can be determined by subtracting the credit total of the required Spring 2023 courses from 18. If a student is at a point in their program where they are only doing research, they should register for the research course designated by their program and list 18 credits in the credit value field.
Since course enrollment is linked to both billing and health insurance eligibility, we are requesting that all students have initial registrations submitted no later than Sunday December 11th; however, students will still be able to make changes to their courses enrollments in self-service up until the first day of the term (January 3rd). After the first day of the term, students will be required to submit any change requests by creating a case through the SEAM online form. Changes in registration for School of Medicine courses are not permitted after the mid-point of the course. Courses dropped after the drop period will be noted on your transcript as a late withdrawal. For non-SOM courses, students are required to abide by the course policies of the division in which the course is hosted regarding changes in schedule.
Interdivisional registration (IDR) requests, also known as a request for a course taking place at another JHU division, must still be submitted via the SEAM online form and are subject to the registration deadlines and policies of the home division.
Instructions for SOM course registration through SIS self-service can be found here.
