Hopkins Biotech Network Mentorship Match Program

  • What is the program?

    A 3-month TRAINEE-RUN virtual mentorship program that helps Biomedical Post-Docs, PhD students, and Masters students at Johns Hopkins/UMBC learn about non-academic science careers through focused, one-on-one mentoring with an industry professional

  • Fall Cohort Runs from August- December

    Applications open mid August, close mid September (will get email notifying acceptance and LinkedIn invite), informational interviews and matching period will end early October, matches will be sent out and official 1-on-1 mentoring initiated by mentee will run from October- end of December

  • Spring Cohort Runs from January- July

    Applications open mid January, close mid February (will get email notifying acceptance and LinkedIn invite), informational interviews and matching period will end early March, matches will be sent out and official 1-on-1 mentoring initiated by mentee will run from March- end of June

Purpose and Value

Who can be mentees?

All Graduate-Level Trainees who are interested in Careers in the Biotech Industry and are affiliated with Johns Hopkins or UMBC

  • Postdoctoral Trainees
  • PhD Students (all years welcome to apply but 4th+ years have priority)
  • Masters' Students

Who are our mentors?

HBN has unique partnership with CASSS,  a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) professional scientific society made up of over 5,000 industry, academic and regulatory professionals.

Previous mentors have held positions at a variety of small and big biopharmaceutical companies and government institutes.

Our mentors have worked in fields such as: research and development, regulatory affairs, consulting, scientific communication, and public policy.

    Recruitment and Application Period

    1 month

    Applications open for PhD, Masters and Post Doctoral Trainees apply to be mentees, and CASSS members and other Biotech and Pharma professionals apply to be mentors

    Acceptance and Pre-Matching Period

    3 weeks

    Accepted trainees and mentors will be notified of acceptance and then accepted mentees will arrange 1-6 informational interviews with pool of mentors. At the end of the pre-matching period mentors and mentees will complete form about preferences for mentee-mentor match

    Mentor Mentee Match Period

    3 months

    Mentees will be matched with a mentor and for the next 3 months mentees will arrange 1-on-1 monthly meetings to achieve and discuss professional goals with their mentor
