Africa Week 2021

This past year ASA did Africa Week a little differently. We had a myriad of fun and educational events!

Time Vault Recipes

We kicked off Africa Week with the Time Vault of Recipes, a new initiative where ASA will be collecting and archiving African recipes from Hopkins students. We then proceed to create a presentation encompassing all of the recipes.

Professional Development Conference

We organized a professional development conference called Navigating Professional Spaces (while Being Black). It was a half day conference that aimed to help Black students learn how to navigate the professional world and figure out their career paths through listening to the knowledge, experience, and advice of Black professionals and creatives from various backgrounds. Our goal was for students to walk away with information they can use to forge their own paths and overcome obstacles they might face along the way/overcome obstacles as they move through their careers.

Virtual Auction

Last but not least was the Virtual Auction! The Virtual Auction was a night where people had the chance to bid on awesome products and services all while supporting a charity that does amazing work for black youth. The proceeds of the auction went to Africa Youth Alchemy, a community-based organization that empowers black youth through cultural education, art, and hands-on learning. We  had people offer a products, services, and talents to the auction. Here are some examples of things that were auctioned off:  artwork, dancing/language/cooking/(insert your talent here) lessons, hairstyling services, nail services, etc.  Participants had the opportunity to offer products to be auctioned off too.
