About Us

STEP (Special-Education Teen Empowerment Project) is a student organization with the aim of providing high school students with learning/developmental/cognitive disabilities in the Baltimore Public School System (who do not attend an exclusively special needs school) with individualized educational support that they may not otherwise receive. Currently, we are partnered with Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School and Digital Harbor High School to provide weekly one-on-one tutoring/mentorship sessions for students in the special education program. This includes working with students on subjects they are struggling with (in particular, raising their reading level), resume/interview aid, helping students apply to Baltimore-sponsored job programs, and forming friendships.
