The mission of the Graduate Healthcare Business Association (GHBA) is to foster the growth of Carey Business School’s insightful and ambitious healthcare leaders by equipping them with the knowledge, skills and resources required to shape the future of the healthcare industry.
About the Hopkins Healthcare Business Conference
The Hopkins Healthcare Business Conference (HHBC) is GHBA’s signature annual event. It brings together the full Hopkins community of healthcare business leaders, including graduate students, faculty and alumni, together with industry leaders for an enriching, stimulating, and vibrant experience. HHBC brings important topics, ideas, problems, innovations and thinkers from the business world of healthcare to the fore for the Hopkins community, while also showcasing the best of Hopkins’ contributions to the business of healthcare to the world. Our aims are to keep the Hopkins community at the cutting-edge of developments in the business of health, to promote the Hopkins community’s ability to ascend to highest ranks of leadership of the business of health, to provide robust networking opportunities for the Hopkins community, and to increase awareness of Carey Business School’s central, leading position in the business of health. HHBC is led annually by the leadership of the GHBA, in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs. Annually, GHBA establishes partnerships with affiliated Hopkins Centers, Offices, and student associations to co-host HHBC to fulfill these goals in fresh and dynamic ways.

GHBA HHBC Leadership Roles
All roles are open to graduate students at the Carey Business School, regardless of year or program. Motivated students from other Hopkins schools will be considered. Students are expected to self-nominate.
Director of Sponsorship and Budget
The Director of Sponsorship and Budget (SB Director) is a key position on the Hopkins Healthcare Business Conference (HHBC) leadership team. The SB Director is a strategic and tactical role. The SB Director has primary responsibility for the development of HHBC’s sponsorship levels and benefits, developing the lead list of potential sponsors, and, in combination with the efforts of SB Assistant Directors, pitching potential sponsors. The target fundraising figure for HHBC 2025 is tentatively expected to be $15K-$20K. The SB Director also develops and oversees the HHBC budget. By default, applicants for this position will also be considered for the role of Assistant Director of Sponsorship and Budget. The anticipated time commitment is 15 hrs per month through March 2025.
Assistant Director Positions
There are a broad array of Assistant Director positions available. These leaders primarily work with the associated Director position (e.g. Assistant Directors of Communications will work closely with the Director of Communications). The anticipated time commitment is 5-10 hrs per month. Depending on the role, applicant qualifications and interest levels, there may be one or multiple assistant directors. For example, it’s anticipated that there will be one Assistant Managing Director and multiple Assistant Directors of Agenda.
Assistant Managing Director: The Assistant Managing Director works closely with the HHBC Managing Director, providing support to establish and monitor timelines, manage workstreams, and resolve planning issues across all functions.
Assistant Directors of Agenda: Assistant Directors of Agenda will engage in critical agenda development activities, including providing input on session topics, developing lists of target speakers, recruiting speakers, speaker coordination, and serving as onsite points of contacts for invited speakers during the conference. Applicants should provide a concise list of the health care topics, industries or trends they are most interested in in list format in the “other comments” section of this application form.
Assistant Director(s) of Communications: Assistant Directors of Communications will leverage their skills in social media, design, and/or writing to promote the conference and produce conference materials. This role is critical to a smooth, polished experience for conference guests and attendees. Applicants are encouraged to include a hyperlink to any relevant prior work products in the “other comments” section of this application form, if applicable and possible.
Assistant Director(s) of Logistics: Assistant Directors of Logistics understand the power of details in establishing the success of in-person and digital events. Assistant Directors will have key roles in establishing the location and layout of all conference spaces, developing the registration and check-in processes, and planning the digital experience for virtual attendees.
Assistant Director(s) of Employer Engagement: In coordination with the Director of Employer Engagement and the Carey Office of Employer Relations, Assistant Directors of Employer Engagement will ensure that HHBC features engagement opportunities for graduate students with a diverse set of health care industry employers.
Assistant Directors of Sponsorship and Budget: In coordination with the SB Director, the Assistant Director of Sponsorship and Budget will source sponsorship leads, give input on the value and benefits of sponsorship packages, pitch potential sponsors, and secure sponsorships. This Assistant Directors will also research and advise on budget planning.
GHBA Leadership Roles (Year-round, non-Conference)

Vice President
The Vice President role is a hands-on, versatile role engaged in a wide range of GHBA leadership activities. The Vice President will be second-in-command of GHBA, representing GHBA at student organization events and meetings with university administration as needed. The Vice President will collaborate with a wide range of GHBA leadership to promote high-quality GHBA programming. The Vice President will take on select strategic projects to enhance the operations of the GHBA, such as developing efficient systems for collaboration among GHBA leaders, improving GHBA member engagement, enhancing GHBA teambuilding efforts, and/or building systems for long-term planning and goal-setting for the organization. The anticipated time commitment is 10-15 hrs per month.
Director of Professional Development
The Director of Professional Development (PD Director) partners with the Carey Business School offices of Career & Life Design (C&LD), Employer Relations, and Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) on behalf of the Graduate Healthcare Business Association (GHBA) to identify, develop and execute professional development programming Carey graduate students pursuing careers in the health care business. The PD Director identifies topics, events, resources and guidance relevant to GHBA membership, and collaborates with the C&LD, Employer Relations and DAR offices to bring these ideas to life! From identifying topics for workshops, to developing new recruitment and networking events, the PD Director plays an important role in promoting the development of relevant, strategic career development opportunities for Carey students passionate about business careers in healthcare. The anticipated time commitment is 10-15 hrs per month. Depending on interest and qualifications, Co-Directors may be appointed. By default, applicants for this position will also be considered for the role of Assistant Director of Employer Engagement.
Director of Student Networking
The Director Student Networking creates programming and events to promote the networking of GHBA membership with graduate students with related goals, ensuring that GHBA members capture the full value of their time at Carey Business School by growing their network of future leaders. Sample programming might include developing a system to recommend which students should connect for coffee chats, an event series that connects students interested in similar roles (e.g. “Future Hospital Executives Networkng Breakfast”) and/or events/programs that broadly promote networking across students in programs that may not otherwise be frequently connected (e.g. connecting MBA community with MS/MBA in Biotechnology or MS in Healthcare Management).
