CCIG & BIPOC: Dinner, Dialogue, & Doing the Work- Combating Health Inequities
Details
This is a three-part event where JHU students and faculty are welcome to have dinner as we explore the health inequities faced by the communities cohosting the event (e.g., API, Black, and Latine communities).
The first part of the event will be a brief 20-minute presentation about each group's main health inequities. The presentation will highlight the systematic disadvantages these communities face and how we, as current students and future healthcare workers, can help combat these health inequities from downstream to upstream through the theoretical context of Social Determinants of Health.
The second part of the event will be a SOURCE presentation highlighting current opportunities for students to get involved. This will focus on the "downstream" ways students can help combat health inequities (i.e., addressing individual-level health behaviors and needs).
The last part of the event will be a panel of nurses discussing how they combat health inequities "upstream" through their respective fields. Panelists include Fernando Mena-Carrasco, Melissa, deCardi Hladek, Janeice Taylor, and Cecilia Tomori.
Dinner will be provided to all RSVP attendees. The food will be locally sourced by food vendors representing the co-hosting group's communities.
