Details

As geopolitical competition between the United States and China intensifies, Latin American countries are increasingly navigating a complex and uncertain strategic landscape. Shifting priorities in Washington, renewed emphasis on hemispheric security, and China’s expanding economic and political footprint in the region have forced governments across the region to reassess their foreign policy, trade, and engagement.
This session will examine how countries in the region are adapting to heightened great-power rivalry while seeking to protect their economic interests, preserve strategic autonomy, and minimize political or economic retaliation. The discussion seeks to dive into the implications of these dynamics and determine whether diversification beyond traditional partners is feasible, how governments balance engagement with competing powers.
