-- About Paula Boggs, Musician, Businesswoman, Lawyer, Army Veteran, JHU Alumna, University Trustee Emerita, and Peabody Institute Advisory Board Member --
After co-founding the JHU women’s cross country team as a student, and while serving eight years in the U.S. Army, Paula was an attorney at the Pentagon and White House. Her multifaceted career includes experience working as a Dell Corporation vice president and Starbucks Corporation’s top lawyer.
A one-year songwriting workshop at the University of Washington, where she was earlier an adjunct professor of law, turned into a full-time career as a recording and touring artist. Today, Paula Boggs gives speeches across the United States and beyond, pens essays for Bloomberg Law and writes music, co-produces albums for, and tours extensively with, Paula Boggs Band. In 2013, President Obama appointed her to the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, in 2018 she received the Seattle Mayor’s Arts Award and in 2021 Southwestern University (Georgetown, TX) conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws.
Paula is a 15-year Voting Member and Board Governor of The Recording Academy, Pacific Northwest Chapter. She is also a lifetime Seattle Symphony board member, JHU emerita trustee and serves on Newport Festivals Foundation board (Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals). She is as a long time member of the Peabody Institute Advisory Board and has generously supported the LAUNCHPad program.
