Kickstart: Kickstart Your Compositional Journey!

The NCTC invites you to join Kickstart: a composition workshop for performers and those new to composing (all are welcome)!
• Compose a sketch in 5 hours with guidance & support
• Get your sketch read/performed by a soloist/ensemble
• No composition experience necessary
• Kickstart your journey as a composer!

You will get:
• A new composition
• A reading of your composition by Peabody performers
• A recording of your composition
• A professionally bound copy of your score
• Mentorship from experienced composers
• Access to our composer-performer network
• Workshops to enhance your compositional journey
• Kickstart your journey as a composer!

Thursday, October 16th from 5-10PM
Unger Conference Room, Peabody Institute

Schedule of Events:

5pm: Opening Ceremony, Distribution of Packets
5:15pm: Installing Musescore, Using Musescore Workshop
5:15pm-9:00pm: Additional Workshops to be determined. Composer-on-call available at all times in Unger.
9pm: Scores Due, Volunteers print & bind participants’ scores
9:30pm: Readings, Presentation of Scores

FAQ
Can I volunteer? Yes! We are looking for volunteers to perform/read the pieces, give a composition workshop, or otherwise assist. Please email newcontemporarytonality@gmail.com. We appreciate you!

Can I just come to the reading? Yes, you are invited to come support new composers! The reading is at 9:30pm in Cohen-Davison.

I am not a Peabody student. Can I attend? Yes! If space becomes an issue, we will prioritize Peabody students. However, we do not foresee that.

I'm worried everyone will be better than me. So is everyone else! Even the composers running the event. You're in good hands :)

I'm not really a beginner. Am I eligible? Yes! We welcome those studying composition majors as well. If space becomes an issue, we will prioritize those not studying a composition degree. (We apologize for the conflict with Composition Seminar — see next.)

I can't join the whole time. You are still welcome to participate! Please email newcontemporarytonality@gmail.com with the hours you'll need to miss after registering, and we'll send further instructions if needed. But you can still participate.

I filled out the Google Form instead. You're registered with us! We will register you on the HopkinsGroups when the time comes.
