Lillie Shockney, Professor of Breast Cancer and Professor of Surgery and Oncology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
Michelle Turner, Thoracic Oncology Nurse Practitioner Manager
Mikaela Olsen, Clinical Program Director for Oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital
The event will begin with a brief presentation in which each speaker will introduce themselves and share their personal experiences with cancer, highlighting the intersection between their lived experiences and their professional roles in oncology. Following the introductions, the event will transition into a structured panel discussion. A moderator will pose a series of curated questions to facilitate a meaningful dialogue about the emotional, clinical, and professional dimensions of working in oncology.
After the panel, the conversation will be opened to attendees for a Q&A session, allowing students and participants to engage directly with the speakers. Event materials will include speaker bios, a list of guiding questions, and reflection prompts to encourage thoughtful engagement and post-event discussion. The aim of this event is to provide students with both professional insight and humanistic perspectives into oncology care, fostering deeper interest and understanding in this complex and emotionally rich field for our students.
