About Us
The Octopodes, founded in 1989, is the oldest and premier co-ed a cappella group of Johns Hopkins University. The Octopodes’ mission is to enjoy making music together, and to share that music with the general public, both within and outside of the JHU campus. The Octopodes achieve this mission through rehearsals, on-campus concerts, gigs, recording albums, writing original music, arranging innovative songs, competing, attending a cappella festivals, and collaborating with other a cappella groups. With multiple appearances in Semi-final rounds of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, tracks on Best of College A Cappella and Voices Only compilations and a CARA award for a groundbreaking all-originals album, this group of singers infuses every performance with raw energy and powerful sound.
