Mission
ABC Health is a student-led initiative that aims to advocate for the health needs of the underserved members of the surrounding Baltimore community. We assist clinics and aid groups in their mission to deliver accessible and good quality healthcare to underinsured and uninsured patients in the community.

Among other activities, we participate in monthly trips to the local farmer's market, in which members assemble pertinent health information, preventative care tips, and free resources like brochures and present them to the community. On top of that, our members volunteer at clinics that offer free or reduced services to patients who are uninsured or underinsured. Finally, we engage in community service that aims to aid those in need throughout the Baltimore community.

Members have to opportunity to venture outside the classroom and into the Baltimore community to do meaningful volunteer work with a group of students who are all passionate about community health. Members receive information about clinical/shadowing experiences near Hopkins and also have access to leadership opportunities within the club.

The American Red Cross JHU chapter is an active volunteer organization that works under the broader American Red Cross Central Maryland Chapter and the Center for Social Concern at the Johns Hopkins University. We aim to extend the services of the American Red Cross on our campus and in the local community by providing regular blood drives, disaster action services, CPR and First AID classes, and domestic and international relief awareness. We also organize community service events in the Baltimore community and take part in the Red Cross's Homefire Campaign and Vaccinate a Village initative.

Art therapy is a growing field which involves creative outlets for personal and emotional support. It's an evidence-based therapy practice that focuses on improving well-being and emotional health through expressive arts projects. There have been countless studies proving the benefits of expressive arts and art therapy in many populations and we're excited to share art activities with a wide range of people in the Baltimore community. With the unique opportunity of partnering with the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Ronald McDonald House, Keswick Assisted Living Center, Gilchrist Center Baltimore, Huntington's Disease Center, Best Buddies, and Karina Cafe, Believe in Art focuses on serving the community through art therapy to alleviate levels of pain and anxiety and provide emotional care. Members are closely involved with patients and family members by facilitating arts and crafts projects. Service trips occur weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on the community partner. The service opportunities expose our volunteers to various levels of patient contact, as well as provide experience in both the medical and artistic fields. Another facet of the club works with spreading awareness of art therapy within the Hopkins community through arts events, club collaborations, and on-campus events. Everyone can benefit from art therapy, whether it's patients at the Hospital, people with disabilities, our volunteers, or undergraduates on campus.

Circle K at JHU is a fun and flexible community service group geared towards exposing our members to a variety of volunteer opportunities around Baltimore. Our 3 main tenets are service, fellowship, and leadership. We work with many different populations (children, elderly, homeless, etc.) and engage in a multitude of activities (gardening, carnivals/fairs, cooking, healthcare/blood drives, tutoring, fundraising, and many others). We offer our members a way to make a large impact on the community, gain service and leadership skills, and of course, have fun!

Music is a powerful mode of expression that serves as an outlet in times of stress, joy, and any other emotion. Beyond serving as a hobby, studying an instrument allows the student to practice important life skills, such as commitment and self-discipline. Thinking in terms of music helps expand one's current frame of mind, which promotes open-mindedness and new ways of seeing the world that may be applicable to many school subjects such as math and science.

Encore offers music lessons to students at schools in the Baltimore area. Lessons are provided on a voluntary basis, and they range from group instruction to private lessons. We seek to cultivate camaraderie with the students we serve as we introduce them to music theory and a variety of instruments.  For many of our students, EMP's various programs are the only musical instruction they will receive.

In the past, Encore has provided lessons at Cardinal Shehan School, Waverly Elementary/Middle School, Hampstead Hill Academy, Abbottston Elementary School, and 901 Arts. Our volunteers are all Hopkins students, ranging from those who enjoy music as a hobby to those who pursue it professionally. 

We provide instruction for a variety of musical instruments, depending on the experience of our volunteers and students' access to instruments. For example, a volunteer might help lead group piano lessons for kindergarteners during an after-school program, or they may give a private clarinet lesson to a third grader in the middle of the day. Hours and skillsets vary among our volunteers.

Therefore, NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED of our volunteers. Instead of teaching music lessons, volunteers may choose to write lesson plans. They may also decide to lead lessons for our beginner students and learn techniques they will teach 15 minutes prior to the start of each lesson.

Food as Medicine is a Johns Hopkins student group dedicated to improving health and wellness of the students at Baltimore City Public Schools. The program currently partners with Barclay Elementary School to provide: (1) interactive health and nutrition workshops for students, (2) a health-focused after school program, and (3) school-wide health events. The weekly workshops address the Maryland Common Core Curriculum Standards for nutrition. The Food as Medicine program aims to promote healthy behavior changes by not only empowering students to think critically about leading healthy lives, but to also act on the lessons learned throughout the program. Together, the Food as Medicine participants and volunteers strive to promote a culture of health and wellness at primary schools in Baltimore.

Mission
It is our mission as Hop Help Tutoring to provide academic support and act as exemplary role models to the students of Waverly Elementary School so that they are inspired to pursue learning. We tutor students from third to fifth grade three times a week during their after-school program with math and reading homework, while encouraging them to have fun. We work hard to ensure that tutor-student pairs are kept constant throughout the semester so that a strong rapport is built between the Hopkins and Waverly students. As the school is conveniently located around 10 minutes by foot from Barnes and Nobles, our members often build lasting connections as we travel back and forth every week. We work closely with the staff at The Y of Waverly to ensure the program runs smoothly and to the benefit of the students.

Hop Outside partners with Baltimore Inspiring Connections Outdoors, a local chapter of the Sierra Club, to help lead cost free trips for inner city Baltimore City students. Members lead middle school and high school students on day-long or overnight hiking, canoeing, climbing, and biking trips. Outdoor activities can be prohibitively expensive for many students who may not have the money or access to resources, particularly in Baltimore where the economic disparity is a serious issue. These trips provide opportunities for students to experience the outdoors and yield the benefits this can have on individualsÔÇÖ mental and physical health. They are also educational opportunities that emphasize enjoying the outdoors in a way that minimizes human impact to foster environmentally-conscientious young adults.

The Johns Hopkins Jail Tutorial Program provides tutoring in GED and other subjects to incarcerated men, women, and juveniles at institutions across Baltimore and Maryland. Tutors have the opportunity to build unique relationships with inmates and develop a personalized curriculum for tutees. Many incarcerated in multiple institutions lack educational opportunities to prepare themselves after release, and Jail Tutorial Project aims to bridge this gap. Jail Tutorial Project focuses on building meaningful relationships between the tutors and students, and inspire academic excellence, challenge uninformed perspectives, and enrich the future of all participants. In addition, we focus some of our efforts on advocacy for educational opportunities in the incarceration system, as well as informing our community at large about the educational barriers that exist for incarcerated people.

Mission
The Johns Hopkins University Chapter of the Kidney Disease Screening and Awareness
Program (KDSAP) strives to provide students with the opportunity to participate in community
outreach events, promote awareness of kidney-related diseases, and increase interests in
nephrology careers among its members. JHU KDSAP also offers speaker series and programs
to expose its members to medical and scientific professions while building relationships with
mentors. Through this, the organization targets undergraduate students to gain leadership and
management skills as well as an early exposure to the lacking nephrology workforce. The goal
of JHU KDSAP is to essentially improve the health and lifestyle of under-served communities
while developing important skills and fostering interests in medicine among its members.

Our members have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in screening patients for kidney disease, as well as shadowing opportunities with nephrologists at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The mission of Maryland Science Olympiad at JHU (MSO@JHU) is to provide fun and challenging science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) competitions that build team skills and highlight the value that diversity brings to a team.

Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 science education, increasing student interest in science, creating a technologically literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers. These goals are achieved by participating in Science Olympiad tournaments, incorporating Science Olympiad into classroom curriculum, and attending professional development workshops.

The Maryland Science Olympiad is a "hands-on" K-12 science program including rigorous academic interscholastic tournaments. Scientists and engineers from Maryland corporations, organizations, and universities collaborate with K-12 science teachers to oversee the 46 teamwork-oriented tournament events.

Musicare is an organization that brings together Hopkins students to play music at hospitals and nursing homes. We perform in a variety of different styles with a range of instruments and also emphasize personal interaction with the audience. We hope to provide a relaxing experience for the patients and brighten up their day in an otherwise stressful environment. NAB aims to address the social isolation experienced by Alzheimer's through forming student-patient relationships. By pairing student volunteers 1-to-1 with dementia residents we not only hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents and their families but also to develop a stronger understanding of their personal identity, build new social skills, and make new friends.
At Hopkins, we want to leverage Hopkins clinical and public health expertise to educate and spread awareness about inequalities surrounding AD. Our group invites guest speakers from the Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Public Health who share their clinical and academic insights. Within NAB, there will be monthly journal clubs to discuss racial disparities encompassing AD to further educate ourselves on social and racial injustices.

The Ready, Set, Design! program provides introductory engineering experiences for middle school and elementary school girls in the Baltimore area through half-day, weekend programs held at the Johns Hopkins University campus. Our goal is to familiarize young girls with the STEM industry and inspire them to pursue further STEM interests in a creative and educational environment. Girls have the opportunity to design their own prototypes, build models, and run test trials on their designs. This half day event allows girls to experiment with engineering and is intended to serve as an outlet for girls to explore engineering.

Splash at JHU is a student-organized, educational outreach program that offers a variety of courses to high school students from the greater Baltimore-DC metropolitan area. The teachers, who are JHU undergraduate and graduate volunteers, teach courses on topics that they are passionate about.
Courses range from traditional (Introduction to Game Theory; Poetic Meter and Scansion) to more
specialized or unique topics (How to Write a Song; Latin in Harry Potter). Splash at JHU provides an
opportunity for high school students of all backgrounds and talents to explore topics they might not
normally have the chance to in school, while also exposing them to a college campus and its

SHARE aims to provide international medical relief and reduce medical waste. We collect unused clean medical supplies from the operating rooms at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and distribute them to clinics in developing nations. Since the pandemic, SHARE has expanded its mission and launched the Mask Making Program, providing students with kits to sew masks to donate to Baltimore organizations in need.

The mission of the YO! Baltimore Tutoring Project is to help Baltimore City youth obtain the proper education needed to succeed in life. YO! serves out-of-school youth (16-22 years of age) by tutoring and helping them with academic classes, GED prep and job training. The YO! Center is a short, 5-minute, walk from the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus.
