Battle of the Blue Jays: Top Rope Competition 2026

Climb your way to the top at Battle of the Blue Jays Top Rope Competition! Meet climbers from other schools and win great prizes! 

All experience levels are welcome, as there will be a range of routes from beginner to advanced. Each route is worth a certain number of points; climbers qualify for open finals by scoring the most points in each category. 5 finalists from the following categories will be selected to participate in finals: Women’s, Men’s, Nonbinary (based on demand). There will not be separate beginner, intermediate, advanced categories. 

Finalists placing in the top 3 will win prizes! At the end, a raffle open to all climbers in the competition will be held to win more prizes! Previews of prizes will be posted on our Instagram @jhuclimbingwall.

Schedule: 
10am-11am — Check-in / Belay testing / Climber's meeting
11am-1pm — Open climb
2pm — Finals start

Logistics: 
—   Equipment: Climbing shoes, harnesses, and a limited amount of chalk will be available to rent for free, but climbers are encouraged to bring their own gear. 
—   Food & Drink: Food and drink will be provided. Climbers can also consume their own food and drink in specified areas of the Recreation Center. Off/on-campus options for food for purchase will be communicated closer to the competition date.  
—   Parking: San Martin Garage on San Martin Drive or street parking on West University Parkway
