Want to learn more about key domestic policy issues ahead of the 2024 Presidential debates and townhalls?
Join the SNF Agora Institute and Johns Hopkins University’s College Democrats and Republicans as they debate Bidenomics, immigration and border security, and government surveillance on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 7 – 8:30pm in Hackerman B17.
Bidenomics: Bidenomics refers to the economic agenda of the Biden administration. Biden surrogates and other democratic leaders often argue that the economy is performing better than ever, with record unemployment and a cooling of the rampant inflation the country has experience since the pandemic. However, republicans often argue that Bidenomics isn’t working for American or Americans, especially those in the middle class who are struggling to make ends meet. So, who’s right? And is Bidenomics working for the US?
Immigration and Border Security: Immigration and security along our southern border continues to be an important issue in Presidential campaigns and in national politics more broadly. News headlines often state there is a border crisis, with record numbers of immigrants streaming across the US-Mexico border year after year. But whose approach between democrats and republicans will help us find the balance between fostering the economic growth and strong labor force that can come from immigration and the need to ensure that those immigrants arrive legally and follow all of nation’s laws to keep us safe?
Government Surveillance: In the wake of the September 11 attacks, the US government passed federal laws that allowed for widespread surveillance efforts designed to track and prevent another terror attack on US soil. However, the broadness of these laws has also meant that US citizens and their private communications and information are ensnared in these surveillance efforts – often without their knowledge and in violation of their constitutional rights. What can or should be done to both protect the national security interests of the country while ensuring the protections enshrined in the constitution?
Pizza will be available for attendees after the event. This event is being co-hosted by the College Republicans and College Democrats.
