The Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity (URSCA) is pleased to present Undergraduate Research Week, October 21-25, 2024! Throughout the week URSCA will offer a variety of virtual and in-person programming with the aim of demystifying the process of getting involved in undergraduate research at Hopkins. We will hold info sessions on our grants and fellowships; panel discussions with current undergraduate researchers; workshops with staff; and drop-in hours for getting all your questions answered and your application materials workshopped!

Conducting Object-Based Research at the Museum and Beyond

As part of URSCA's Undergraduate Research Week (October 21-25), the Baltimore Museum of Art will offer a workshop on conducting object-based research. Led by the BMA's Assistant Curator of Academic Engagement, Dr. Robin Joyce, and Director of Conservation, Linda Owen, this workshop will provide guidance on engaging with objects as research material across disciplines and will highlight the different ways in which conservators, curators, and art historians work with objects. The speakers will also provide information on how undergraduates can get involved with research at the BMA.

Finding a Mentor and Collaborating with Faculty

As part of URSCA's Undergraduate Research Week (October 21-25), current Woodrow Wilson Fellows and other undergraduate researchers will share insights on how to identify a faculty mentor and how to navigate the mentor relationship as you pursue your undergraduate research project.

Navigating IRB as an Undergraduate: A Virtual Info Session

As part of URSCA's Undergraduate Research Week (October 21-25), this virtual info session will provide guidance for undergraduates interested in conducting research that involves human subjects. Whether the research is in the natural sciences, social sciences, arts, or humanities, students dealing with human participants in any way must receive approval for their study from the Institutional Review Board (IRB). In this info session, a member of the Homewood Institutional Review Board will explain IRB policies for undergraduates, outline the process for applying for IRB approval, and answer questions.

Conducting Research Abroad: A Virtual Panel Discussion

As part of URSCA's Undergraduate Research Week (October 21-25), this virtual panel discussion will explore the possibilities of conducting research abroad as an undergraduate, from the logistics to the adventure! On this panel, URSCA-funded undergraduate researchers will share their experience; staff from the Global Education Office will explain procedures and offer tips; and staff from URSCA will talk about special funding opportunities for international research.
Panelist Ginger Trask '25 did historical research in England, France, and Tahiti on an ASPIRE Grant. Panelist Adam Xia '25 did economic research in China on a Phares Family Grant.

Info Session: Woodrow Wilson Fellowship

To kick off URSCA's Undergraduate Research Week (October 21-25), this info session will provide an overview of the Woodrow Wilson Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program, including information about the application process and tips for getting started.

The Woodrow Wilson Fellowship is available to first-year Krieger undergraduates in all majors and disciplines.

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend this info session to learn more and ask questions.
