The conversation will help students learn about wargame design, and how politics can be simulated and modeled. From early wargames implementing politics as random events or charts, to modern political-military simulations emphasizing the political aspect of conflict.
Matthews is best known for designing “Twilight Struggle” which simulates the global competition for international influence between the US and USSR from 1945 to 1989. It is one of the highest rated tabletop games of all time. He has also designed multiple other games and simulations such as “1960: Making of the President”, “1989: Dawn of Freedom”, and “Imperial Struggle” (which depicts the 18th century rivalry between France and Britain).
