Mission Youth Library Tutorial (YLT) is a tutoring-based program in which elementary to high school students come to the Enoch Pratt Free Library - Waverly Branch each Saturday for help with homework and individual tutoring. YLT also offers tutoring services on Sundays via Zoom. We emphasize one-on-one based learning with the goal of teaching students how to reason through problems and to think independently. To accomplish this, we adjust teaching methods to cater to individual students in hopes of increasing the students' confidence in their learning abilities while also giving them a productive space in which to ask questions and complete their school assignments. Many students in the Baltimore area do not have the financial means to seek additional educational resources outside of school. The Waverly Branch Library is situated in a neighborhood with a high percentage of such underprivileged families. With this concern in mind, YLT aims to provide students K-12 with educational help they otherwise would not be able to receive.
