The Faces of Africa Conference is an annual event that brings together African health professionals, policymakers, and leaders to engage in meaningful conversations about the future of healthcare in Africa. This year’s theme, Redefining the Role of Diasporans in Africa’s Future, highlights the increasing emigration of African healthcare workers and the urgent need to build stronger connections, channels, and avenues that diasporans can contribute in Africa
Looking around our MPH class cohort alone, 89 out of 265 students are African health professionals, mainly doctors, who have recently emigrated from the continent. While brain drain remains a major challenge, we must also focus on fostering a stronger sense of community and creating more avenues for diasporans to contribute to their home countries. This conference serves as a call to action, urging healthcare professionals in the diaspora to reconnect with their roots, whether by returning physically, collaborating remotely, and building innovative ways to strengthen Africa’s healthcare systems.
