The student chapter of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) at Johns Hopkins is dedicated to furthering the knowledge and advancement of computers and information technology through the free exchange of ideas and information.

Membership Benefits
ACM hosts exciting events that prepare members for the internship season and allow them to network with technical/campus recruiters and alumni. Members can also gain competitive programming experience through our ACM-ICPC team and join interest groups in areas such as web development and robotics.

While we host technical events that support interest in technology and computer science, you can also take part in social events that are hosted throughout the year to connect with other ACM members and even faculty in the CS department. We also have food and drinks at these events :)

Members get J-Card access to the ACM Lounge in Malone Hall so you can come in at any time, 24/7. The lounge is a great place to just relax with friends or even (gasp!) work. The Lounge features an open space where you can snack on food or use our gaming setup (including a Nintendo Switch, GameCube, PlayStation) to create your own community within ACM.

The AstroJays Rocketry Team is a multidisciplinary, student-led team that builds advanced rocket systems with the goal of increasing the number of aerospace engineering opportunities on the Homewood campus.

The AstroJays are composed of 4 subsystems: Avionics, Propulsion, Structures, and Flight Operations, each of which focus on one aspect of our rockets.

-- Avionics gathers data from a variety of sensors placed within the rocket and on the propulsion system, using its data to determine its flight path, and sending diagnostics back to a ground station.
--Propulsion develops and implements commercial and custom propulsion systems. Currently developing a hybrid rocket motor.
--Structures ensures that the rocket is its lightest, while staying aerodynamic and retaining its structural integrity throughout the entire flight (externally and internally).
--Flight Ops is responsible for management of the high-power certification flight program as well as safe and consistent rocket recovery through the deployment of parachutes.

Working together as a team, these subsystems develop advanced rocket systems. Our team of more than 30 students are all hard at work to make each launch count.

Additionally, the AstroJays maintains strong connections to its alumni, who have gone on to work at companies such as Blue Origin, SpaceX, and more.

The purpose of the Graduate Student Association (ECE GSA) of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is a nonprofit graduate student group dedicated to the advancement and development of graduate and professional studies in the department as well as building a platform to aid the smooth transition to graduate studies and research and provide support to graduate students during the course of their studies. The GSA recognizes the need for both diversity and inter-disciplinary collaboration and strives towards achieving these goals. Thus, as officers of the ECE GSA, our responsibilities include promoting diversity outside and inside our department, participating in community outreach, and working with other departments to provide collaborative research opportunities. The GSA works closely with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department staff to create, organize and implement organizational goals and events to achieve these objectives. These goals will be carried out through graduate student-led events including but not limited to, department meetings and social events, volunteer opportunities, and engagement events between undergraduates, graduates, post doctoral fellows, and/or faculty.

The JHU Makerspace is located at 320 W 29th St #220 (across the street from R House). The Makerspace is a manufacturing and design space managed by the Whiting School of Engineering to enable innovative projects by students. The Makerspace is open to all students, faculty, and staff of Johns Hopkins University. Priority is given to personal projects unrelated to coursework or grant-funded research projects that have not yet reached the point of commercialization.

The Salant Investment Team provides students with a hands-on experience managing securities in a portfolio that operates as part of the University endowment. Members develop their oral presentation skills by creating pitches for critique by team members and other audience members. The team aims to outperform the most relevant benchmark, the S&P 500, and it has been successful in doing so since inception. The team also commits tens of thousands of dollars to supporting financial aid. A portion of the portfolio is withdrawn annually to provide scholarship support for undergraduate students in the Schools of Engineering and Arts and Sciences.
