Mission
One of our main missions is to assist the Hopkins community in meeting the recommendations of the Mental Health Task Force recommendations. As listed in sections 1.d and 3c, students need more access to information about the mental health services on campus. Therefore, we focus to increase campus awareness on the presence of APTT and highlight the impact of mental health on academic performance and overall well-being of students. We plan on accomplishing this through an extensive use of advertising campaigns and public relations events. We also hope to improve group cohesion through increased amounts of bonding events.

A Place to Talk (APTT) is the student-to-student peer listening group for the Hopkins community. APTT was founded in 1983 to provide support and excellence in peer listening to the Johns Hopkins community in an empathetic, reliable, and responsible manner. We seek to train members and non-members to be effective peer listeners in order to offer an environment on the JHU campus for anyone to discuss anything, from everyday frustrations to serious concerns. Our programming is centered around recruiting and training new members, staffing our rooms, maintaining group cohesion and communication, increasing the awareness of APTT services around campus, and training other student organizations in attentive listening skills. As of right now, our club's plan for functioning during the 2024-2025 school year is to maintain and operate two peer-listening rooms, one in Brody Learning Commons (BLC) 4010 and one in Wolman Hall.

Mission
ABC Health is a student-led initiative that aims to advocate for the health needs of the underserved members of the surrounding Baltimore community. We assist clinics and aid groups in their mission to deliver accessible and good quality healthcare to underinsured and uninsured patients in the community.

Among other activities, we participate in monthly trips to the local farmer's market, in which members assemble pertinent health information, preventative care tips, and free resources like brochures and present them to the community. On top of that, our members volunteer at clinics that offer free or reduced services to patients who are uninsured or underinsured. Finally, we engage in community service that aims to aid those in need throughout the Baltimore community.

Members have to opportunity to venture outside the classroom and into the Baltimore community to do meaningful volunteer work with a group of students who are all passionate about community health. Members receive information about clinical/shadowing experiences near Hopkins and also have access to leadership opportunities within the club.

To fight reproductive healthcare barriers on campus and in Baltimore and engage in the movement of actively shaping a world where full access to reproductive health care is a global lived reality for all, regardless of gender, race, or sexual orientation. ARSH supports full access to comprehensive reproductive and complementary health care services in settings that preserve and protect the essential privacy and rights of each individual; advocates public policies that guarantee these rights and ensure access to such services; and supports access to medically accurate educational programs that enhance understanding of human sexuality.

The African Students Association (ASA) of Johns Hopkins University comprises a group of students of African and non-African descent dedicated to the education of the Hopkins community at large of the different cultures that comprise the African continent. ASA also provides a network of support for African students at Johns Hopkins and serves as a source of information for any member of the Johns Hopkins University community interested in learning about Africa. The African Students Association is a service as well as social organization which aims to rid misconceptions concerning Africa through education.

The Albanian Student Association at Hopkins aims to establish a close-knit Albanian community where members are given the opportunity to connect with fellow Albanians in Baltimore and around the United States. Furthermore, we want to give everyone the opportunity to learn more about the history and traditions of Albanian culture, and also the prospect of learning and/or practicing the Albanian language. Our organization seeks to embrace and promote cultural diversity on campus by raising awareness and educating the Hopkins community about Albania.

The Alpha Phi Omega, Kappa Mu Chapter has been striving for excellent service since its 1998 rechartering at Johns Hopkins University. Kappa MuÔÇÖs impact in Baltimore is astounding; collectively, we perform over 5000 hours of community service per semester. Our service is spread out over various types of projects including helping out at soup kitchens, repairing homes, and teaching English to the Spanish-speaking community.



While service is an integral part of Alpha Phi Omega, we also encourage friendship among the chapter and leadership attained through internal and external activities. As such, in addition to performing community service, our Brothers attend many fellowship events and seek leadership both on campus and in the greater community.

The American Mock World Health Organization chapter at Johns Hopkins University leads annual simulation conferences where delegates are invited to assume the roles of global leaders in addressing todayÔÇÖs most pertinent global health issues. We provide opportunities for students to develop leadership abilities, sharpen public speaking skills, understand real-world policy applications through the lens of their respective roles. The chapter also recruits for and attends the National AMWHO conference as a delegation.

AMWHO is modeled after the Ontario and Montreal World Health Organization conferences set in Canada, and the primary focus of all three is to raise student awareness of pertinent health issues facing the world today, as well as to promote understanding of the many roles students can engage in through global health policy. The conference hopes to establish an environment similar to that of the World Health OrganizationÔÇÖs Assembly, and educate future global health leaders in the proceedings of international health entities. Furthermore, AMWHO aims to nurture an interest in global health and health policy that is often neglected in a standard health education curriculum. Students will receive the opportunity to sharpen their diplomacy skills, as well as increase their ability to engage in problem solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills.

The American Red Cross JHU chapter is an active volunteer organization that works under the broader American Red Cross Central Maryland Chapter and the Center for Social Concern at the Johns Hopkins University. We aim to extend the services of the American Red Cross on our campus and in the local community by providing regular blood drives, disaster action services, CPR and First AID classes, and domestic and international relief awareness. We also organize community service events in the Baltimore community and take part in the Red Cross's Homefire Campaign and Vaccinate a Village initative.

Art therapy is a growing field which involves creative outlets for personal and emotional support. It's an evidence-based therapy practice that focuses on improving well-being and emotional health through expressive arts projects. There have been countless studies proving the benefits of expressive arts and art therapy in many populations and we're excited to share art activities with a wide range of people in the Baltimore community. With the unique opportunity of partnering with the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Ronald McDonald House, Keswick Assisted Living Center, Gilchrist Center Baltimore, Huntington's Disease Center, Best Buddies, and Karina Cafe, Believe in Art focuses on serving the community through art therapy to alleviate levels of pain and anxiety and provide emotional care. Members are closely involved with patients and family members by facilitating arts and crafts projects. Service trips occur weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on the community partner. The service opportunities expose our volunteers to various levels of patient contact, as well as provide experience in both the medical and artistic fields. Another facet of the club works with spreading awareness of art therapy within the Hopkins community through arts events, club collaborations, and on-campus events. Everyone can benefit from art therapy, whether it's patients at the Hospital, people with disabilities, our volunteers, or undergraduates on campus.

CATCH Baltimore’s primary mission is to connect Baltimore citizens with resources to meet their needs through increasing awareness, long-term projects, and direct community service. CATCH Baltimore acts on the belief that community members and their local organizations know what is needed most for the community.

We then (1) connect them with nonprofits, student organizations, and other healthcare centers that can provide the resources they need, and (2) unite the student body in raising funds or supplies to address these needs.

Delta Xi Phi is a national sorority that has had a charter at Johns Hopkins since 2006. As an organization, we are dedicated to sisterhood, friendship, advancement of women through higher education, increasing multicultural awareness, and community service.

Johns Hopkins University is a campus filled with students and faculty with a great diversity of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Students maintain a sense of acceptance, but tend to form segregated friendships. The founders recognized a need for an opportunity for women to unite and celebrate their diversity. 

Therefore, on June 7, 2003, the Alpha Line "Bixia" was initiated. Vicki R. Nelson, Chinyere Ogbonna, and Monica E. Soderlund became the founders of the Lambda Associate Chapter of Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority, Incorporated at 10:10pm June 7, 2003.

Mission
Music is a powerful mode of expression that serves as an outlet in times of stress, joy, and any other emotion. Beyond serving as a hobby, studying an instrument allows the student to practice important life skills, such as commitment and self-discipline. Thinking in terms of music helps expand one's current frame of mind, which promotes open-mindedness and new ways of seeing the world that may be applicable to many school subjects such as math and science.

Encore offers music lessons to students at schools in the Baltimore area. Lessons are provided on a voluntary basis, and they range from group instruction to private lessons. We seek to cultivate camaraderie with the students we serve as we introduce them to music theory and a variety of instruments.  For many of our students, EMP's various programs are the only musical instruction they will receive.

In the past, Encore has provided lessons at Cardinal Shehan School, Waverly Elementary/Middle School, Hampstead Hill Academy, Abbottston Elementary School, and 901 Arts. Our volunteers are all Hopkins students, ranging from those who enjoy music as a hobby to those who pursue it professionally. 

We provide instruction for a variety of musical instruments, depending on the experience of our volunteers and students' access to instruments. For example, a volunteer might help lead group piano lessons for kindergarteners during an after-school program, or they may give a private clarinet lesson to a third grader in the middle of the day. Hours and skillsets vary among our volunteers.

Therefore, NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED of our volunteers. Instead of teaching music lessons, volunteers may choose to write lesson plans. They may also decide to lead lessons for our beginner students and learn techniques they will teach 15 minutes prior to the start of each lesson.

Food as Medicine is a Johns Hopkins student group dedicated to improving health and wellness of the students at Baltimore City Public Schools. The program currently partners with Barclay Elementary School to provide: (1) interactive health and nutrition workshops for students, (2) a health-focused after school program, and (3) school-wide health events. The weekly workshops address the Maryland Common Core Curriculum Standards for nutrition. The Food as Medicine program aims to promote healthy behavior changes by not only empowering students to think critically about leading healthy lives, but to also act on the lessons learned throughout the program. Together, the Food as Medicine participants and volunteers strive to promote a culture of health and wellness at primary schools in Baltimore.

Global Medical Brigades is a program of Global Brigades, Inc., the worlds' largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. By utilizing our unique holistic model, we mobilize student volunteers and professionals to empower under-resourced communities in developing countries , as well as in our home communities via secular programs that improve communities' quality of life while respecting local culture and supporting an eventual transition to self-sustainability. Global Medical Brigades does not support paternalism or voluntourism.

Membership Benefits
Members will be able to travel on annual medical brigades to Honduras or Belize to conduct mobile clinics and health workshops in communities that typically lack doctors in a twenty-mile radius. During this time, they will have the opportunity to shadow physicians and assist with in-take, triage, medication packing, and health education while interacting with community members (50 contact hours). Members will also be able to help organize on-campus speaker sessions that raise awareness about global health inequities and international perspectives on medical issues and sustainable health.

Please note that it is not necessary to be fluent in Spanish to participate in a brigade. We will have translators available with us at all times, and we will also teach members useful Medical Spanish phrases prior to the brigade.

It is our mission as Hop Help Tutoring to provide academic support and act as exemplary role models to the students of Waverly Elementary School so that they are inspired to pursue learning. We tutor students from third to fifth grade three times a week during their after-school program with math and reading homework, while encouraging them to have fun. We work hard to ensure that tutor-student pairs are kept constant throughout the semester so that a strong rapport is built between the Hopkins and Waverly students. As the school is conveniently located around 10 minutes by foot from Barnes and Nobles, our members often build lasting connections as we travel back and forth every week. We work closely with the staff at The Y of Waverly to ensure the program runs smoothly and to the benefit of the students.

Hopkins Community Connection collaborates with communities to challenge systemic barriers to health equity by training a diverse workforce of individuals who champion a more just system through an innovative and patient-centered approach to addressing social determinants of health in the healthcare setting.

Hopkins Community Connection is a student organization designed to address essential needs of patients through universal social needs screenings and navigation to community resources and benefit programs. Our organization partners with JHMI and staffs Family Resource Desks at the Harriet Lane Clinic, Comprehensive Care Practice, Bayview Children's Medical Practice, Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center, and the East Baltimore Medical Center to address the social determinants of health. Student advocates assist Baltimore families to access essential resources such as food, housing, heat and electricity in order to be healthy. Volunteer advocates then follow up with their clients, on a weekly basis, to ensure they get the appropriate resources to address their needs. By learning about the health care system, addressing psychosocial needs, and making lasting bonds with Baltimore families, HCC volunteers will become the nation's next great health care leaders.

HERO is a professional EMS organization that operates on the Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus with the support of Lifeline's Critical Care Team, Johns Hopkins Security, and the Student Health & Wellness Center. As a 24/7 rapid response service, HERO provides BLS level care on over 300 calls each year. HERO has approximately 50 active members, each with at a least a Maryland EMT-B certification involving 200 hours of classroom learning and over 100 training hours.
