    Frequently Asked Questions

    What instruments can I play?

The Pep Band is open to all instruments, including woodwinds, brass, and percussion. If you play something non-standard (i.e. would not be found in a typical marching band), talk to us about how we can best accommodate you musically.

Are there instruments available to use?

Yes! There are a number of instruments available for members if they do not have one, including percussion, woodwinds, and brass.

    What are the time commitments?

We rehearse as a full band once a week for a little under two hours. Your section may hold an additional rehearsal some weeks. We are all students first, so we don't expect availability all the time. Games are usually on the weekends, you can find our tentative fall performance schedule here.

Are there auditions? How much experience do I need?

We do not hold auditions for the Pep Band. Most of our players come to us having done marching or concert band in high school. If you're concerned about your musical ability, we encourage you to reach out. We're more than happy to schedule a time to meet and help you get up to speed.

What kind of music do you play?

We play a variety of popular tunes. Many are songs you'd recognize at any sporting event: Seven Nation Army, September, Narco, Hey Baby. We maintain a repertoire of over forty active tunes. You can find a list of some of them here.

    How much does it cost?

Absolutely nothing. We will never ask you to pay for anything. All travel, food, uniforms, etc. will be provided for free. We recognize that money represents a significant barrier in many music groups; we strive to be accessible as possible.
