Student Activities Commission (SAC)

What We Do

The Student Activities Commission, or SAC, is an appointed body of 8 voting members. We oversee the annual budget allocation as well as monthly grants. SAC now works closely with the Finance Committee of SGA to allocate funds. SAC provides funding in two main ways: monthly grants and the annual allocation. See below for more information. Organizations must re-register and submit a budget request in order to receive funding. SAC is available for any questions or concerns at sac@jhu.edu, or review our guidelines here

 
 
 
 
 

Finance Process 2021 Information

Here is the link the SAC guidelines for funding for the academic year of 2021-2022. We have switched to a semester allocation. Budgets for the fall are pending. In the fall, groups will apply for a spring budget.

Monthly Grants

The SAC offers monthly grants to provide supplemental funding for new initiatives, unforeseen expenses and newly approved organizations

Visit the Grants page for more information about SAC monthly grants and other funding opportunities. The SAC Monthly Grant is available on Hopkins Groups. Go to your group page, create budget, and then choose Monthly Grant 2021. The Monthly Grant form is the same excel sheet as the semester allocations.

Semester Budget Info

SAC-approved organizations that have existed over one semester in the following categories including Advocacy and Awareness,  Cultural, Performing Arts, Publications and Journals, Religious and Spiritual, and Special Interest and Hobby.

The budget application form will be available through the student organization reregistration process on HopkinsGroups. Name your doc file submission as org-name_category.doc (i.e. knitting-club_specialinterest.doc).

The SAC commissioner application is available on Hopkins Groups. If you have any questions, feel free to email the SAC at johnshopkinssac@gmail.com.

Responsiblities:

  • Review and approve monthly grants from club officials and notify clubs of results
  • Serve as the chief point of contact for 10 or more student groups to the Student Government Association
  • Participate in club town halls and air concerns from club officials
  • Attend club meetings and events to verify expenditures and ensure compliance with SAC guidelines.
  • Participate in the annual SAC funding process
  • Report directly to the Student Government Executive Treasurer
