An author talk event with Lamya H. on their book Hijab Butch Blues, a manifesto on Brown Muslim Queerness. We will be discussing the complexities of practicing faith, family dynmaics, and how queerness interacts with these concepts.

Queerness & Faith: Hijab Butch Blues, Islam, and Self-Expression

Lamya H (she/they_ is a queer Muslim writer and organizer living in New York City. Their memoir Hijab Butch Blues won the Brooklyn Public Library Book Prize and the Stonewall Nonfiction Book Award, and was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Awards and the Publishing Triangle Awards. Lamya's work has appeared in Los Angeles Review of Books, Salon, Autostraddle, Vice, and others. She has received fellowships from Lambda Literary and Queer Arts. Lamya's organizing work centers around creating spaces for LGBTQ+ Muslims, fighting Islamophobia, Palestine, and prison abolition.
