October 23rd, 2021 Electrical service interruptions on Homewood Campus
On Saturday October 23, 2021, Plant Operations will be interrupting electric service to the buildings listed below. The duration of the outage for each building is minimal for the majority of buildings, but some will experience an extended outage. The outages will begin at 7:00 AM and will finish at approximately 8:00 PM. These outages are necessary to complete testing of our new generator that serves the Power Plant and our Cogeneration system. Additionally, we are trying to combine this outage with several other outages needed around campus to minimize the total disturbance. We are needing to install new electric power meters as well as remove the advanced power quality meters that were temporarily installed over the summer. We’ll also perform preventive maintenance to the electrical substation serving Mason, Malone, Hackerman and Substation No. 1. Please let us know if you have questions regarding these outages. Seeking study participants for biometric device security study
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory is conducting a research study to evaluate the security of commercial and prototype biometric finger, iris, and face recognition systems. The study will test the ability of the systems to recognize presentation attacks (spoofs). The estimated time commitment is four hours and compensation is $125. The study will be conducted in November and December of 2021. Please visit the SecureUS Study website (https://welearnyouearn.com) for more information and to sign up. The study is open to all JHU community members except employees of the Applied Physics Laboratory.
