The Life Design Lab is excited to announce the sixth annual Future Fest, Hopkins’ signature festival for career exploration, life design, and connecting with employers.

 

From September 5–19, 2025, across our Homewood and D.C. campuses, Future Fest invites students, alumni, employers, and campus partners to come together, explore possibilities, and discover next steps toward a fulfilling life.

Future Fest is more than a career fair—it’s an opportunity to uncover new paths, build meaningful connections, and design a future that aligns with your goals.

Future Fest 2025: Community Service & Social Impact Explore Tour

A potential hybrid “day of service” and Life Design Lab Explore Tour. Partnering with local community organizations on one-day service projects, asking those professionals at those organizations to share more about the work they do and the paths they took to get involved in that work, hosting an additional panel or discussion with individuals involved with different forms of government, non-profit or social impact work, and/or providing initial exposure to CSC, LDL, and community partner programmatic offerings for the year.

Future Fest 2025: Breaking into Big (Bio) Tech

Curious about what it takes to land an opportunity at top tech and biotech companies like Google, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Meta? Join us for an interactive workshop designed to give you the inside scoop on recruitment timelines, essential skillsets, and practical application strategies to help you stand out in competitive applicant pools.

In this session, you’ll:
Gain a clearer understanding of when and how to apply for roles in top tech and biotech industries
Learn what hiring managers at leading companies are really looking for
Receive tips on how to tailor your resume and materials for industry-specific roles

At the end of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to sign up for a 1:1 resume and application review session with alumni from big biotech and tech companies. Spots for 1:1 reviews are limited and attendance at the workshop is required to be eligible. Whether you’re exploring your first internship or gearing up for full-time applications, this workshop will give you the tools and confidence to move forward with clarity.

Future Fest 2025: Reverse Salary Negotiation Challenge

This is an interactive program that flips the script by having partnering staff members, alumni, or employers act as job candidates while students take on the role of hiring managers. This lets students experience how salary negotiations look from the other side and helps them understand employer constraints. We would then follow up with a discussion on what worked (and what didn’t) and an opportunity to practice leveraging these tactics following the discussion.

f\Future Fest 2025: Networking in the US as an International Student

This interactive virtual workshop, led by Sammie Walker Herrera of Speak Y'all, empowers international students to build real, lasting professional relationships, without the awkwardness or pressure to "network perfectly." Through a supportive, step-by-step approach, you'll learn how to reach out with confidence, start meaningful conversations, and stay connected in a way that feels authentic to you.

Together, we'll explore strategies for using LinkedIn to tell your story, identify professionals you admire, and build a personalized networking list. You’ll get hands-on support to sharpen your profile, draft thoughtful messages, and practice a 60-second introduction you can use in coffee chats, career fairs, or interviews.

Whether you’re networking in a new country or speaking a second (or third!) language, this session will help you feel more grounded, prepared, and proud of the unique perspective you bring to the table.

Elevate your professional presence and master the art of dining etiquette at Soaring in Sophistication: A Blue Jay Dining Etiquette Experience. This event is designed to equip students with essential skills to navigate formal and business dining with confidence.

What to Expect:

• Expert-led instruction on professional dining etiquette

• Guidance on navigating a multi-course meal with confidence

• Practical skills for networking events, interviews, and business meals

Multi-Course Dinner:

To ensure an authentic experience, guests will enjoy a multi-course meal served by professional staff in a structured setting. Tables will be pre-set with a formal place setting, including bread and butter, allowing participants to familiarize themselves with proper table arrangements before the session begins.

Important Note:

Professional attire is required. We ask that you arrive on time and remain for the entire duration of the event to fully benefit from the experience. Seats are limited, therefore, sign up now to refine your etiquette skills and soar in sophistication!

Students must arrive by 5:45pm and students must stay until 8:00pm for the entire event. It is imperative you stay the entire program to engage in this high impact experience.

Future Fest 2025: Future Proof Yourself Using AI Prompts

Futureproof Yourself: Using AI Prompts to Explore, Network, and Design Your Path

In this dynamic hybrid session students will explore future career possibilities through the lens of prompt engineering. Participants will begin by reviewing emerging industries, technologies, and societal needs that might give rise to entirely new job roles that don't exist yet. They will then use prompt-writing techniques to articulate the skills, qualifications, and experiences required for these hypothetical positions. The session culminates in the creation of resumes tailored to these imagined roles. Students will share their innovative resumes in small groups for peer feedback on creativity, relevance, and alignment with the envisioned job descriptions. Through this activity, students will not only enhance their prompt-writing abilities but also expand their perspective on career adaptability and strategic thinking in a rapidly evolving world. The goal of this session is to provide a hands-on space that can be hybrid as well for students to explore how to write better AI prompts for career exploration, job and internship searching, networking, and creating productive habits as it relates to career and life design.

Future Fest 2025: Visa Pathways and Sponsorship Stories

In partnership with the Office of International Services (OIS), the Life Design Lab (LDL) invites any interested Hopkins student to an interactive workshop designed to foster connection, insight, and community.

The session will begin with introductions, an overview of F-1 and J-1 visa regulations provided by OIS, and a brief life design framework from LDL. This will be followed by a panel discussion featuring international professionals currently working in the U.S. on various work visas. Panelists will share their personal and professional journeys, offering reflections on the challenges, milestones, and strategies that shaped their paths. A moderated Q&A will give students the opportunity to engage directly with panelists, asking general questions about career development, job search experiences, and navigating conversations about sponsorship.

The second half of the program will include dinner and structured networking, where students can connect with panelists, JHU alumni, and current students who have used CPT or OPT during their time at Hopkins.

Our goal is to provide international students with meaningful exposure to real-world experiences and career insights, while creating space for dialogue, community-building, and support. This program is open to all students served by ILLD and is part of a broader collaboration with OIS and Future Fest to ensure broad access and impact across JHU campuses.

Future Fest 2025: BioFestival and Grant Competition

Join us in the Imagine Center to hear from student presenting on their research from the summer and connect with industry professionals to learn about the research they are completing at their organization. There will be three components including:

1. Lightning Round Competition of 5 minute pitches on student's research incorporating impact on the science field and personal life design.
2. Poster series with students showcasing their research experience.
3. Top biotechnology companies showcasing research being completed at their sites. Zymo Research will have up to 8 different tables and are looking for additional partners.
