Active Minds at Hopkins is dedicated to stopping suicide before it happens at The Johns Hopkins University through education, outreach, and the creation of a campus environment that supports those with mental, behavioral, and substance use concerns and encourages them to seek help. Chapter activities focus on prevention and early intervention while also acknowledging that work must be done during and after a mental, behavioral, or substance use crisis to foster a safe and supportive environment for all students.

Active Minds at Hopkins does not provide direct peer support or other therapeutic services; instead, the chapter focuses on ensuring that students feel empowered in discussing their mental and behavioral health and have the skills necessary to support themselves and others and advocate for institutional- and community-level change.

The Doctors Without Borders Student Chapter at JHU is dedicated to providing service to the community through opportunities for advocacy, event creation, fundraising, volunteering, engineering, and technology projects for our members. We strive to forge ongoing partnerships with clubs on campus and organizations in Baltimore and beyond to serve others and create a better future.

Our parent organization, Doctors without Borders (also known by their French name Medecins Sans Frontieres), was founded in France in 1971, and is a humanitarian organization operating on the belief that all people should have access to basic medicine and healthcare. MSF provides healthcare in response to disasters both natural and human-made. They leverage the power of everything from computer science to basic sanitation engineering to help combat health epidemics.

Global Medical Brigades is a program of Global Brigades, Inc., the worlds' largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. By utilizing our unique holistic model, we mobilize student volunteers and professionals to empower under-resourced communities in developing countries , as well as in our home communities via secular programs that improve communities' quality of life while respecting local culture and supporting an eventual transition to self-sustainability. Global Medical Brigades does not support paternalism or voluntourism.

Membership Benefits
Members will be able to travel on annual medical brigades to Honduras or Belize to conduct mobile clinics and health workshops in communities that typically lack doctors in a twenty-mile radius. During this time, they will have the opportunity to shadow physicians and assist with in-take, triage, medication packing, and health education while interacting with community members (50 contact hours). Members will also be able to help organize on-campus speaker sessions that raise awareness about global health inequities and international perspectives on medical issues and sustainable health.

Please note that it is not necessary to be fluent in Spanish to participate in a brigade. We will have translators available with us at all times, and we will also teach members useful Medical Spanish phrases prior to the brigade.

Hopkins GMMA is part of a national organization that works to raise up the next generation of Christian healthcare professionals. The goal of HopGMMA is to provide an opportunity for students on campus to cultivate and develop their interests in serving communities through both medical and spiritual means, while also creating and developing a safe community of like-minded individuals, opportunities for Christian activities, mentorship, and inspiration in the healthcare field. Morgan’s Message aims to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health by normalizing conversations within high school and collegiate athletic communities. The mission of the Operation Smile chapter at JHU will align closely with the national organization's goals of advocating for children born with cleft lip and cleft palate through the means of raising awareness and funds. We recognize that children born with such conditions often face a lower quality of life due to feeding issues, speech problems, self confidence struggles, among others. Additionally, the majority of the children that Operation Smile seeks to aid come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. As a result, cleft palate treatment/surgery is something that is essential but is often not possible for these kids. We hope to be able to raise money for this cause while also spreading and increasing awareness about cleft lip and palate as a condition through service.

Operation Smile at JHU will allow Hopkins undergraduates to take part in an initiative to raise awareness and funds for children around the world who are born with cleft lip and cleft palate through various fundraising, service, and advocacy events. The Violet Project has three main aims:

- To make reliable, comprehensive, and easily understandable sexual/reproductive health education accessible to teens and young adults through a digital platform.

- To provide young people in Baltimore City and beyond with sexual and reproductive health services (including condoms, menstrual hygiene products, and self-collect STI testing) free of charge, increasing access and privacy through an online ordering system, and to distribute these products to low-income youth in our clinics as well.

Voice for Life is the pro-life student organization at Johns Hopkins University and exists for two primary reasons. The first purpose of Voice for Life is to defend the inviolable right to life of every innocent human being. Our members seek to foster a culture of life at Johns Hopkins University and in the surrounding community. We also advocate for the right to life of the preborn through respectful and productive dialogues. The other essential purpose of Voice for Life is to support pregnant and parenting students by connecting them with resources that can help them achieve both short-term and long-term success. Wings is a nonprofit organization based in Baltimore that aims to improve menstrual hygiene and equity in the city. We provide free menstrual hygiene products to underprivileged members of the community, host educational workshops on menstrual, sexual, and womenÔÇÖs health, and offer more sustainable alternatives to single-use menstrual products. In doing so, Wings hopes to break the social shame, stigma, and silence around menstruation to ultimately uplift, enable, and empower those in our communities.
