Eligibility

The Maryland Alpha chapter receives eligible candidates twice per year. Eligible candidates must be in the top eighth of their junior engineering class, or in the top fifth of their senior class. Eligibility is received through the Johns Hopkins Engineering Advising Office during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Candidates are notified by the JHU Engineering office and the Maryland Alpha executive board. To reach election, eligible candidates will be subject to an election process, and will only reach election upon executive board approval. Once elected, it is mandatory that candidates attend a formal initiation to receive entry into Tau Beta Pi.

Student electees who are financially unable to meet the initiation-fee obligation may make delayed payment arrangements with their chapters, may borrow from the Association's loan fund, or may accept election but postpone initiation for up to five years.
