Founded in France in 1971, Doctors without Borders (also known by their French name Medecins Sans Frontieres) is a humanitarian organization operating on the belief that all people should have access to healthcare regardless of race, gender, religion, or political affiliation. MSF provides healthcare in response to disasters both natural and human-made. Outside of providing quality healthcare where it is desperately needed, MSF also frequently draws public and international attention to forgotten crises.

Friends of MSF at JHU is a student chapter of Doctors Without Borders USA. Our goals are:

To raise awareness about MSF's work and the humanitarian issues they work on,
Encourage students to work with MSF and similar NGOs upon graduation,
And support MSF through advocacy, events, fundraising, and volunteering.

Mission
Global Medical Brigades is a program of Global Brigades, Inc., the worldÔÇÖs largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. By utilizing our unique holistic model, we mobilize student volunteers and professionals to empower under-resourced communities in developing countries via secular programs that improve communities' quality of life while respecting local culture and supporting an eventual transition to self-sustainability. Global Medical Brigades does not support paternalism or voluntourism.

Membership Benefits
Members will be able to travel on annual medical brigades to Panama to conduct mobile clinics and health workshops in communities that typically lack doctors in a twenty-mile radius. During this time, they will have the opportunity to shadow physicians and assist with in-take, triage, medication packing, and health education while interacting with community members (50 contact hours). Members will also be able to help organize on-campus speaker sessions that raise awareness about global health inequities and international perspectives on medical issues and sustainable health.

Please note that it is not necessary to be fluent in Spanish to participate in a brigade. We will have translators available with us at all times, and we will also teach members useful Medical Spanish phrases prior to the brigade.

Hopkins GMMA is part of a national organization that works to raise up the next generation of Christian healthcare professionals. The goal of HopGMMA is to provide an opportunity for students on campus to cultivate and develop their interests in serving communities through both medical and spiritual means, while also creating and developing a safe community of like-minded individuals, opportunities for Christian activities, mentorship, and inspiration in the healthcare field. GMMA aims to equip future healthcare professionals to deliver holistic care that incorporates not just physical needs, but spiritual needs as well.

Hopkins GMMA members will be able to travel on annual medical mission trips to Honduras, where they will partner with a local missionary and work alongside the local health department to provide needed healthcare to the community. They will also be able to receive professional and spiritual mentorship from doctors currently partnered with GMMA. The mission of the Operation Smile chapter at JHU will align closely with the national organization's goals of advocating for children born with cleft lip and cleft palate through the means of raising awareness and funds. We recognize that children born with such conditions often face a lower quality of life due to feeding issues, speech problems, self confidence struggles, among others. Additionally, the majority of the children that Operation Smile seeks to aid come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. As a result, cleft palate treatment/surgery is something that is essential but is often not possible for these kids. We hope to be able to raise money for this cause while also spreading and increasing awareness about cleft lip and palate as a condition through service.

Operation Smile at JHU will allow Hopkins undergraduates to take part in an initiative to raise awareness and funds for children around the world who are born with cleft lip and cleft palate through various fundraising, service, and advocacy events. We helped bring composting to Nolan's and in front of the FFC, created a pollinator garden on campus, and organized "Planet Runway" the first student-run sustainable fashion show at JHU. We look forward to more environmental campaigns in the 2023-2024 school year, with many different action items we are working on.

The Violet Project has three main aims:

- To make reliable, comprehensive, and easily understandable sexual/reproductive health education accessible to teens and young adults through a digital platform.

- To provide young people in Baltimore City and beyond with sexual and reproductive health services (including condoms, menstrual hygiene products, and self-collect STI testing) free of charge, increasing access and privacy through an online ordering system, and to distribute these products to low-income youth in our clinics as well.

- To engage young people in Baltimore City and beyond with the creation of the Violet Project, elevating their voices and empowering them to learn about their health and encourage their peers do the same.

Voice for Life is the pro-life student organization at Johns Hopkins University and exists for two primary reasons. The first purpose of Voice for Life is to defend the inviolable right to life of every innocent human being. Our members seek to foster a culture of life at Johns Hopkins University and in the surrounding community. We also advocate for the right to life of the unborn through respectful and productive dialogues. The other essential purpose of Voice for Life is to support pregnant and parenting students by connecting them with resources that can help them achieve both short-term and long-term success. We also promote awareness of these resources within the university to inform the community of their benefits.

Wings is a nonprofit organization based in Baltimore that aims to improve menstrual hygiene and equity in the city. We provide free menstrual hygiene products to underprivileged members of the community, host educational workshops on menstrual, sexual, and women's health, and offer more sustainable alternatives to single-use menstrual products. In doing so, Wings hopes to break the social shame, stigma, and silence around menstruation to ultimately uplift, enable, and empower those in our communities.
