The Graduate Coating Ceremony honors Ph.D. candidates who have passed their qualifying exams, transitioning from a Ph.D. student to a Ph.D. candidate.

Each coat is embroidered with the student's name and with a graduate student pin affixed, which represents the unity of each of the 16 Johns Hopkins University doctoral programs. With their families, peers and mentors as witnesses, each student recites the graduate student oath, scientists pledge to always maintain integrity and commitment to the scientific community.

This event will recognize the achievements of those PhD students who have successfully completed their Doctoral Board Examinations between August 1st 2022 and August 15th 2023 and senior Masters students who will be completing their program between Fall 2023-Summer 2024.

You must have passed your DBO exam and satisfied all conditions by 12:00pm on August 15th 2023 to participate in the 2023 Graduate Coating Ceremony,

Survey closes August 15th 2023 at 12pm (noon)

The survey contains relevant information for event logistics, as well as information about white coats, coat sizing, name spelling and pronunciation, etc. Students who fall into the categories listed to the left but are not able to attend are still eligible to receive a graduate coat and to be recognized during the ceremony. Please proceed with the survey.
