Mission
One of our main missions is to assist the Hopkins community in meeting the recommendations of the Mental Health Task Force recommendations. As listed in sections 1.d and 3c, students need more access to information about the mental health services on campus. Therefore, we focus to increase campus awareness on the presence of APTT and highlight the impact of mental health on academic performance and overall well-being of students. We plan on accomplishing this through an extensive use of advertising campaigns and public relations events. We also hope to improve group cohesion through increased amounts of bonding events.

A Place to Talk (APTT) is the student-to-student peer listening group for the Hopkins community. APTT was founded in 1983 to provide support and excellence in peer listening to the Johns Hopkins community in an empathetic, reliable, and responsible manner. We seek to train members and non-members to be effective peer listeners in order to offer an environment on the JHU campus for anyone to discuss anything, from everyday frustrations to serious concerns. Our programming is centered around recruiting and training new members, staffing our rooms, maintaining group cohesion and communication, increasing the awareness of APTT services around campus, and training other student organizations in attentive listening skills. As of right now, our club's plan for functioning during the 2023-2024 school year is to maintain and operate two peer-listening rooms, one in Brody Learning Commons (BLC) 4010 and one in Wolman Hall.

Our mission as a student group is to provide health advocacy to the surrounding Baltimore community and offer assistance to Baltimore clinics and nonprofits in achieving their respective goals of delivering accessible healthcare, promoting healthy living, and alleviating human suffering.

Among other activities, we participate in monthly trips to the local farmerÔÇÖs market, in which members assemble pertinent health information, preventative care tips, and free resources like brochures and present them to the community. On top of that, our members volunteer at clinics that offer free or reduced services to patients who are uninsured or underinsured. Finally, we engage in community service that aims to aid those in need throughout the Baltimore community.

Members have to opportunity to venture outside the classroom and into the Baltimore community to do meaningful volunteer work with a group of students who are all passionate about community health. Members receive information about clinical/shadowing experiences near Hopkins and also have access to leadership opportunities within the club.

Kappa MuÔÇÖs impact in Baltimore is astounding; collectively, we perform over 5000 hours of community service per semester. Our service is spread out over various types of projects including helping out at soup kitchens, repairing homes, and teaching English to the Spanish-speaking community.

The American Mock World Health Organization chapter at Johns Hopkins University leads annual simulation conferences where delegates are invited to assume the roles of global leaders in addressing todayÔÇÖs most pertinent global health issues. We provide opportunities for students to develop leadership abilities, sharpen public speaking skills, understand real-world policy applications through the lens of their respective roles. The chapter also recruits for and attends the National AMWHO conference as a delegation.

AMWHO is modeled after the Ontario and Montreal World Health Organization conferences set in Canada, and the primary focus of all three is to raise student awareness of pertinent health issues facing the world today, as well as to promote understanding of the many roles students can engage in through global health policy. The conference hopes to establish an environment similar to that of the World Health OrganizationÔÇÖs Assembly, and educate future global health leaders in the proceedings of international health entities. Furthermore, AMWHO aims to nurture an interest in global health and health policy that is often neglected in a standard health education curriculum. Students will receive the opportunity to sharpen their diplomacy skills, as well as increase their ability to engage in problem solving, conflict resolution, and communication skills.

The American Red Cross JHU chapter is an active volunteer organization that works under the broader American Red Cross Central Maryland Chapter and the Center for Social Concern at the Johns Hopkins University. The student chapter of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) at Johns Hopkins is dedicated to furthering the knowledge and advancement of computers and information technology through the free exchange of ideas and information.

ACM hosts exciting events that prepare members for the internship season and allow them to network with technical/campus recruiters and alumni. Members can also gain competitive programming experience through our ACM-ICPC team and join interest groups in areas such as web development and robotics.

While we host technical events that support interest in technology and computer science, you can also take part in social events that are hosted throughout the year to connect with other ACM members and even faculty in the CS department. We also have food and drinks at these events :)

Members get J-Card access to the ACM Lounge in Malone Hall so you can come in at any time, 24/7. The lounge is a great place to just relax with friends or even (gasp!) work. The AstroJays Rocketry Team is a multidisciplinary, student-led team that builds advanced rocket systems with the goal of increasing the number of aerospace engineering opportunities on the Homewood campus.

The AstroJays are composed of 4 subsystems: Avionics, Propulsion, Structures, and Flight Operations, each of which focus on one aspect of our rockets.

-- Avionics gathers data from a variety of sensors placed within the rocket and on the propulsion system, using its data to determine its flight path, and sending diagnostics back to a ground station.
--Propulsion develops and implements commercial and custom propulsion systems. Currently developing a hybrid rocket motor.
--Structures ensures that the rocket is its lightest, while staying aerodynamic and retaining its structural integrity throughout the entire flight (externally and internally).
--Flight Ops is responsible for management of the high-power certification flight program as well as safe and consistent rocket recovery through the deployment of parachutes.

Working together as a team, these subsystems develop advanced rocket systems. Our team of more than 30 students are all hard at work to make each launch count.

Art therapy is a growing field which involves creative outlets for personal and emotional support. It's an evidence-based therapy practice that focuses on improving well-being and emotional health through expressive arts projects. There have been countless studies proving the benefits of expressive arts and art therapy in many populations and we're excited to share art activities with a wide range of people in the Baltimore community. With the unique opportunity of partnering with the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Believe in Tomorrow Children's House, Ronald McDonald House, Keswick Assisted Living Center, Gilchrist Center Baltimore, and Karina Cafe, Believe in Art focuses on serving the community through art therapy to alleviate levels of pain and anxiety and provide emotional care. Members are closely involved with patients and family members by facilitating arts and crafts projects. Service trips occur weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on the community partner. The service opportunities expose our volunteers to various levels of patient contact, as well as provide experience in both the medical and artistic fields. Another facet of the club works with spreading awareness of art therapy within the Hopkins community through arts events, club collaborations, and on-campus events. Everyone can benefit from art therapy, whether it's patients at the Hospital, people with disabilities, our volunteers, or undergraduates on campus.

The Catholic Community at Hopkins is a vibrant community of faith that hosts several weekly and monthly events. Weekend and daily Masses are held at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church and University Parish at 2801 N. Charles St., across the street from the south side of campus. Our main gathering space is the student Newman Center adjacent to the church, a welcoming space for students filled with comfortable couches, a flat-screen TV, a pool table, and a fully stocked kitchen, courtesy of our chaplains. The Newman Center is always open to students for studying or relaxing.

Charm City Science League (CCSL) empowers Baltimore middle and high school students to pursue STEM education beyond lessons taught in the classroom. We engage students in active learning and scientific inquiry through Science Olympiad, a national STEM competition for grades 5-12. Using a unique combination of intensive one-on-one mentoring, academic competition participation, resource support, and greater community involvement, we inspire young students to explore their passions in science and support their academic growth.

As one of the largest student organizations within the Center for Social Concern (over 100 members!), Charm City Science League offers a whole host of opportunities to help serve our network of 20+ Baltimore City Schools. We primarily send groups of ~4 mentors to each of our schools in weekly sessions in both the fall and spring semesters, where mentors help the school's Science Olympiad teams prepare for the Regionals and States competitions in March. The DMC is a multimedia lab space as well as an equipment, printing and knowledge resource for students interested in exploring creative uses of emerging media and technology to communicate their ideas.

Music is a powerful mode of expression that serves as an outlet in times of stress, joy, and any other emotion. Beyond serving as a hobby, studying an instrument allows the student to practice important life skills, such as commitment and self-discipline. Thinking in terms of music helps expand one's current frame of mind, which promotes open-mindedness and new ways of seeing the world that may be applicable to many school subjects such as math and science.

Encore offers music lessons to students at schools in the Baltimore area. Lessons are provided on a voluntary basis, and they range from group instruction to private lessons. We seek to cultivate camaraderie with the students we serve as we introduce them to music theory and a variety of instruments.  For many of our students, EMP's various programs are the only musical instruction they will receive.

In the past, Encore has provided lessons at Cardinal Shehan School, Waverly Elementary/Middle School, Hampstead Hill Academy, Abbottston Elementary School, and 901 Arts. Our volunteers are all Hopkins students, ranging from those who enjoy music as a hobby to those who pursue it professionally. 

We provide instruction for a variety of musical instruments, depending on the experience of our volunteers and students' access to instruments. For example, a volunteer might help lead group piano lessons for kindergarteners during an after-school program, or they may give a private clarinet lesson to a third grader in the middle of the day. Hours and skillsets vary among our volunteers.

Therefore, NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED of our volunteers. Instead of teaching music lessons, volunteers may choose to write lesson plans. They may also decide to lead lessons for our beginner students and learn techniques they will teach 15 minutes prior to the start of each lesson.

Of the active physicians in the United States, Filipinos account for only 0.6 percent. For context, 64% are white, 6.9% are Hispanic, 5.7% are Black, and around 20% are non-Filipino Asians. The Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Journal Club and communications aim to create awareness about current issues, research, opportunities, and initiatives toward addressing GBV, and to foster opportunities for JHU students, staff, and faculty to dialogue about current issues in the field. The group is housed at JHSPH, and welcomes students, staff, faculty, and alumni across JHU.

Mission
Global Medical Brigades is a program of Global Brigades, Inc., the worldÔÇÖs largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. By utilizing our unique holistic model, we mobilize student volunteers and professionals to empower under-resourced communities in developing countries via secular programs that improve communities' quality of life while respecting local culture and supporting an eventual transition to self-sustainability. Global Medical Brigades does not support paternalism or voluntourism.

Membership Benefits
Members will be able to travel on annual medical brigades to Panama to conduct mobile clinics and health workshops in communities that typically lack doctors in a twenty-mile radius. During this time, they will have the opportunity to shadow physicians and assist with in-take, triage, medication packing, and health education while interacting with community members (50 contact hours). Members will also be able to help organize on-campus speaker sessions that raise awareness about global health inequities and international perspectives on medical issues and sustainable health.

Please note that it is not necessary to be fluent in Spanish to participate in a brigade. We will have translators available with us at all times, and we will also teach members useful Medical Spanish phrases prior to the brigade.

Glohea at JHU is an academic student organization within the Johns Hopkins Undergraduate Program in Public Health Studies. Our organizationÔÇÖs mission is to increase youth involvement in global health and to develop the next generation of leaders in global health and medicine.

We hold an annual international global health conference, The Global Health Leaders Conference at JHU, where students in grades 9-12 learn about issues in global health, public health, and medicine directly from world leaders in these fields, forge friendships and connections with like-minded exceptional students, and share their own work and ideas on global health-related topics by having the opportunity to present in our GHLC at JHU Student Speaker Series.

Additionally, we manage The Pre-Collegiate Global Health Review (PGHR), the first international, peer-reviewed publication that features articles on global health topics written by pre-collegiate students. PGHR's authors are emerging global health researchers and its articles have been read by tens of thousands of readers.
